Summary: This study investigated the role of MMPs and TIMPs in detecting pediatric patients at risk for developing moderately severe AP or SAP. The results showed that MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels were significantly higher in patients who developed SAP. A regression model using MMP-9 and TIMP-1 predicted SAP.

Summary: The study evaluated the psychometric properties of the SDSC in an Italian population of infants and toddlers. The research identified 6 factors related to sleep disturbances and found the adapted SDSC showed good internal consistency, indicating its potential as an evaluation tool for this age group.

Summary: Sleep disorders are crucial in children's development, impacting their emotions, behavior, and cognition. This study aimed to assess the presence of sleep disorders in very preterm infants at 6-36 months and compare them to term-born infants. The study found that low-risk preterm infants had similar incidences of sleep disorders to their term-born peers.

Summary: Severe hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) is less common in pediatric patients compared to adults, but evidence suggests it can be associated with more severe course and complications. Treatment involves inpatient management, dietary modification, and long-term interventions. Evidence-based management guidelines for pediatric patients have not been well established.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed a cohort of children with acute pancreatitis at a tertiary care hospital in Jordan, revealing that serum lipase is a more sensitive diagnostic tool for pancreatitis compared to serum amylase. Anatomical abnormalities were the most common etiology of pancreatitis.

Summary: Genetic variation in the ABCC4 gene was found to be associated with AP during ALL treatment, while no association was observed with the CFTR gene. Replication confirmed the ABCC4 variants but not the CFTR variant. Larger international studies are needed to more conclusively assess the risk of rare clinical phenotypes.

Summary: This study evaluated the development of infants and toddlers with traumatic brain injury (TBI) over a 3-year period compared to those with orthopedic injury (OI). The findings showed that children with severe TBI had limited recovery, while those with mild or moderate TBI performed similarly to those with OI. Early intervention is crucial for children with severe TBI, while routine developmental surveillance is recommended for children with milder injuries.

Summary: In the management of pediatric acute pancreatitis, early enteral feeding has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce hospital length of stay. Through interventions such as the development of a clinical care pathway and physician education, the proportion of patients receiving early enteral nutrition increased from 40% to 84%, while hospital length of stay significantly decreased. There was no increase in hospital readmission rates.

Summary: Despite advances in research on musical ability in infants, individual differences in general musicality in infants have received relatively little attention. The lack of a clear definition of musical ability in infants has led to a wide range of test procedures, highlighting the need to assess conceptions of musicality in the general population.

Summary: l-Asparaginase is an important therapeutic for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and the accumulated dosage of l-asparaginase is considered as a major risk factor of asparaginase-associated pancreatitis. This study found that the incidence of pancreatitis in childhood ALL patients is more strongly correlated with the dose intensity of l-asparaginase rather than with the cumulative dosage. High peak dose intensity and older age at diagnosis were identified as independent predictive factors for the development of AAP.

Summary: Acute pancreatitis is a significant cause of hospital admissions from gastrointestinal diseases in the United States, with proper management involving risk stratification, fluid and nutritional management. Early aggressive fluid resuscitation and enteral nutrition are associated with better outcomes, but the optimal fluid type and rate are still uncertain.

Summary: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is commonly used for pancreaticobiliary disorders, but it may lead to post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP). Current research suggests that the calcineurin inhibitor tacrolimus has the potential to prevent PEP. Summary: This review challenges the traditional concept of drug-induced pancreatitis as a diagnosis of exclusion, proposing instead a continuum of pancreatic injury termed drug-associated pancreatic injury (DAPI) that can occur concomitantly with other risk factors. The review aims to build a foundation for conceptualizing DAPI, highlight specific drugs associated with DAPI, and provide a framework for future studies.

Summary: Pancreas Divisum (PD) is a common pancreatic ductal variant that is more frequently observed in pediatric patients with acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) compared to the general population. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with minor papillotomy has been shown to be beneficial in relieving symptoms and improving clinical outcomes in these patients.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the characteristics, co-risk factors, and reliability of the Naranjo scoring system for drug-associated acute pancreatitis (DAP) in children with acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) and chronic pancreatitis (CP). The results showed that medications were involved in 7% of ARP or CP patients in the INSPPIRE-2 cohort, with most patients having other risk factors for pancreatitis. The Naranjo scoring system raised questions about its reliability for DAP.
