Summary: The study showed that a single session of dry needling in the teres major muscle was effective in improving pain intensity, internal rotation range of motion, and extensibility in handball athletes with shoulder pain, but had no significant effects on isometric strength.

Summary: This study found no immediate effects of dry needling on the electrophysiology of the upper trapezius muscle, compared with sham needling. Significant low to moderate Spearman correlations were found between surface electromyography activity and pain levels after dry needling treatment.

Summary: The study found that dry needling intervention was more effective than self-stretching in improving the extensibility of hip flexor and abductor muscles. Both dry needling and self-stretching techniques improved the extensibility of hip extensor muscles, as well as reducing pain, stiffness, and improving physical function in patients with hip OA.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of deep dry needling (DDN) on active myofascial trigger points (MTrPs), latent MTrPs, and non-MTrP locations in reducing pain and cervical disability in patients with chronic neck pain. The results showed that DDN applied on active MTrPs in the upper trapezius muscle significantly reduced pain intensity after 1 week and 1 month compared to DDN applied on non-MTrP or latent MTrP locations.

Summary: This study demonstrates the superiority of dry needling (DN) in treating chronic neck pain, showing better efficacy in pain intensity, mechanical heterogeneity index, and pressure pain threshold (PPT), especially at 48 hours and one week after treatment initiation.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effect of ultrasound-guided dry needling (DN) with traditional DN in the treatment of pain and dysfunction for patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The results showed that ultrasound-guided DN with exercise therapy may be more effective than traditional DN with exercise therapy or exercise therapy alone in reducing pain.

Summary: This study found that a single session of dry needling can improve three viscoelastic parameters in the lateral gastrocnemius, decrease pressure pain sensitivity, but has no significant effect on strength and range of motion.

Summary: This study found that a single session of DN or sham DN applied to active MTrPs located in the upper trapezius muscle produced no detectable changes in stiffness at the MTrP or control locations. Real DN induced an immediate analgesic response at both MTrP and control locations, while sham DN induced an immediate MTrP response.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of dry needling treatment on pain intensity, disability, and range of motion (ROM) in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The study found that dry needling combined with stretching was more effective than oral diclofenac combined with stretching in relieving pain, improving function, and restoring knee ROM, with longer lasting effects.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of dry needling and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) in reducing cervical pain and improving cervical range of motion in patients with myofascial trigger points. The results showed that dry needling was more effective in reducing pain, making it a more beneficial and cost-effective treatment compared to multiple sessions of TENS.
