Summary: An efficient iron-photocatalyzed approach was developed for the double decarboxylative coupling of alkynoic acids and alkyl carboxylic acids, providing easy access to alkylated alkynes. The Fe(NO3)3 & BULL;9H2O or FeCl2/TPA catalyst exhibited good activity under blue light conditions in the presence of PhI(OAc)2, showing good functional-group tolerance and activity towards primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl carboxylic acids. Under the iron-photocatalytic system, the double decarboxylative coupling of alkynoic acids and alkyl carboxylic acids yielded alkylated alkynes in good yields.

Summary: A novel method for C4-selective C-H alkenylation of 3-carboxy-2-pyridones with styrenes has been developed using a rhodium catalyst. The carboxylic group at the C3 position plays a key role in directing the C4 alkenylation of the products with concomitant decarboxylation. The exclusive C4 selectivity is observed even in the presence of potentially more reactive C-H bonds, allowing for the preparation of multiply substituted 2-pyridones via sequential C-H functionalization reactions.

Summary: This study presents a catalytic protocol using a dimeric Ni(I) complex and an exogenous alkoxide base for the selective hydroarylation of unactivated and activated olefins. The reaction leads to the formation of products containing aryl- and alkenyl-substituted tertiary and quaternary centers, with high yields and regioisomeric ratios. The mechanism involves carbonickelation followed by hydride transfer using alkoxide as the hydride source, showcasing the utility of this single-catalyst protocol for the synthesis of medicinally relevant scaffolds.

Summary: In the presence of [p-cymene)RuCl2](2), (E)-configured alkenyl bromides coupled with aromatic carboxylates to form orthovinylbenzoic acids in high yields, showing excellent functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies revealed that the selectivity of this reaction is due to (E)-configured alkenyl bromides undergoing smooth coupling while the (Z)-isomers are rapidly eliminated to form alkynes.

Summary: This study reports for the first time that palladium compounds can catalyze the hydroarylation of 1-alkynylindoles with organoborons, resulting in the synthesis of chiral C-N atropisomers. The reaction conditions are mild and lead to excellent regio-, stereo- (Z-selectivity), and enantioselectivity. The simplicity, high stereoselectivity, and good functional group tolerance of this catalytic system make it highly attractive.

Summary: An efficient weak carboxylate-assisted oxidative cross-dehydrogenative C-H/C-H coupling reaction has been developed using water as solvent and ruthenium(II) catalysis, enabling the synthesis of a diverse array of high-value olefin-tethered heteroarenes in high yields (up to 87%). The approach also allows for tunable synthesis of densely functionalized heteroarenes through challenging unsymmetrical bis-olefination process in a one-pot sequential fashion, demonstrating a reversible ruthenation process and suggesting C-H metalation step might not be rate-determining.
