Supported metallic catalysts were prepared from pyrolysis of the organometallic clusters RuOs3(CO)(13)(mu-H)(2), Os-3(CO)(10)(mu-AuPPh3)(2), Os-3(CO)(12), Ru-3(CO)(12) and [Ru(CO)(4)](n), on either silica or titania, and their catalytic performance for CO oxidation has been assessed against a supported catalyst prepared from RuCl3. Ruthenium catalysts prepared from organometallic precursors were found to exhibit better activity, and that supported on TiO2 exhibited activity at the lowest operating temperature.
