Summary: In this study, a bifunctional catalyst prepared from dibutylmagnesium and a pipecolinol-derived tetradentate ligand was found to enable the diastereo- and enantioselective construction of vicinal stereocenters from easily available starting materials. The high stereoselectivity was attributed to the rigid conformation of the diketone in the catalyst pocket, where the Lewis acidic magnesium center and the free hydroxyl group bind with both carbonyls.

The synthesis involves tandem reactions including intramolecular cyclization, propargyl-allenyl isomerization, and electrocyclization in one pot, resulting in the formation of new C-C and C-O bonds.

This metal-free protocol enables efficient synthesis of diversified cycloheptane-annelated chromones in one-pot reactions, producing a polycyclic ring with a new C-C bond and a new C-O bond.

Summary: A facile tandem oxa-Nazarov cyclization and dibromination has been developed, in which the combination of Cu(OTf)2 and diphenyl phosphate (DPP-H) synergistically promotes the coupling of conjugated 1,2-diketones and N-bromosuccinimide, leading to the formation of 2,4-dibromo-3(2H)-furanones in good yields.

Summary: A novel prochiral fluorinated oxindanyl 1,3-diketone has been developed for asymmetric desymmetrization, leading to the generation of enantioenriched organofluorines with excellent yields and diastereoselectivities. Switchable stereoselectivity was achieved by exchanging fluorinated methyl groups to fluorine, and the mechanism and origin of stereoselectivity were studied by DFT calculations. Furthermore, some of the prepared organofluorines exhibited competitive antibacterial activities.

Summary: An efficient asymmetric denitrogenative cycloaddition of benzotriazoles with cyclic and acyclic 1,3-dienes was reported, delivering a variety of substituted hexahydrocarbazoles and indolines in good yields with high enantiomeric excess values. Interestingly, a pair of enantiomers with the same absolute configuration could be obtained using different chiral ligands. The synthetic utilities of the optically active hexahydrocarbazoles were also demonstrated.

This protocol allows for the simultaneous formation of two new C-C/C-N bonds and one heterocycle in moderate-to-good yields with good functional group compatibility. It is applicable for large-scale synthesis and further transformation.

Summary: The divergent domino condensation/biannulation reaction of beta-(2-aminophenyl) alpha,beta-ynones with 1,3-dicarbonyls to construct a polycyclic 4H-pyrano[3,4-c]quinoline core was developed, catalyzed by p-TsOH center dot H2O. The reaction proceeds in ethanol with good to excellent yields, providing a simple and effective method for the synthesis of functionalized 4H-pyrano[3,4-c]quinolinones. Further elaboration with an excess of 20% NH4OH in EtOH at 50 degrees C helps achieve the synthesis of the perlodinine analogues benzo[c][2,7]naphthyridin-4(3H)-one derivatives in high yields.

Summary: Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) have gained increasing attention as sustainable plastics due to their biorenewability and biodegradability. However, semicrystalline PHAs face challenges in commercial implementation and application, such as lack of melt processability, mechanical brittleness, and recyclability. In this study, a synthetic PHA platform was developed with enhanced thermal stability, melt processability, mechanical toughness, intrinsic crystallinity, and closed-loop chemical recyclability by eliminating α-hydrogens in PHA repeat units.
