The evolution and development of CAD/CAM systems have led to the production of prosthetic reconstructions by going beyond the use of traditional techniques. Precision adjustment of prosthetic elements is considered essential to ensure sustainable restoration and dental preparation. The purpose of this article was to summarise the current literature on the fitting quality of fixed prostheses obtained by CAD/CAM technology.

Volumetric and dimensional accuracy assessment of CAD- CAMemanufactured dental prostheses from different materials

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the dimensional accuracy of onlays manufactured with different materials using the same CAD-CAM system. The results showed that composite resin and lithium disilicate glass-ceramic had satisfactory dimensional accuracy, while leucite glass-ceramic exhibited a lack of trueness due to consistent overmilling. The conclusion was that composite resin and lithium disilicate glass-ceramic materials had satisfactory dimensional accuracy.

Inspecting CAD/CAM ceramic dental prosthesis using X-ray micro-computed tomography

Norman Chiche, William Pacquet, Nicolas Lebon, Elsa Vennat, Laurent Tapie

Summary: The paper proposes an X-ray micro-computed tomography measurement protocol to inspect the geometrical quality of ceramic dental prostheses manufactured by dental CAD/CAM systems. The protocol relies on 3D digitisation obtained through X-ray imaging and image processing, offering a turnkey solution for 3D inspection of dental prostheses.

Comparison of the measurement error of optical impressions obtained with four intraoral and one extra-oral dental scanners of post and core preparations

Summary: The study evaluated the measurement error of 4 intraoral scanners and a laboratory scanner for digitizing root canal preparations. It also highlighted the impact of adjacent teeth on the quality of the digital model. The results showed significant differences among the scanners used, and the presence of adjacent teeth had a negative effect on the model quality for some scanners.
