Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the implant prosthesis and patient-reported outcomes of complete dentures retained by four implant-supported attachments in the maxilla over a 5-year period. Results showed a prosthesis survival rate of 85.2% and an implant survival rate of 80.6%. Prosthodontic success rate decreased over time and patient satisfaction improved significantly after implant-supported retention.

Summary: Peri-implantitis is the main reason for implant removals. Most patients showed signs of infection or bleeding on probing at the time of removal. Patients were generally satisfied with the treatment, but there was some reluctance to have future implants placed in the same clinic or by the same professional.

Summary: The study compared the masticatory performance between dentate groups, maxillary CRD and MDI overdentures. The results showed that both CRD and MDI groups had inferior objective masticatory performance compared to dentate groups. However, MDI overdentures showed a significant improvement in Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQL).

Summary: This study investigated the changes in speech, satisfaction with speech, and overall OHRQoL in edentulous patients during and after treatment with maxillary IODs. The results showed that patients treated with maxillary IODs demonstrated improved OHRQoL 3 years after connection of the IOD compared to conventional dentures. However, articulation disorders were still present, indicating the importance of informing patients about possible speech issues.

Summary: The study evaluated the long-term survival, complications, and oral-health-related quality of life in patients with edentulous mandibles fitted with overdentures on two immediately loaded implants. The results showed no difference in implant survival between Locator or joint bar attachments over a 9-year observation period. Joint bar attachments were associated with slightly more complications, while patients in the Locator group were able to maintain better oral hygiene.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the insertion torque and implant stability quotients of implants placed with different surgical techniques in different bone types. The results showed that implant stability was associated with the patient's bone quality, with higher stability in bone quality type II and type III, and lower stability in bone quality type IV. The use of underpreparation or expanders resulted in better stability compared to conventional drilling.

Summary: This clinical trial evaluated the effects of a multispecies probiotic as an adjunct to mechanical debridement on changes in bleeding on probing in edentulous patients with peri-implant mucositis. The results showed that the probiotic group had a higher prevalence of restored peri-implant health and lower bleeding on probing at 24 weeks compared to the placebo group.

Summary: This study compared the impact of root canal treatment (RCT) and dental implant (DI) therapy performed by experienced practitioners on oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) and patient satisfaction. The results showed that both treatments had low total OHIP scores and high patient satisfaction. However, RCT had higher physical pain dimension compared to DI.

Summary: The purpose of this pilot clinical study was to determine if the mandibular and maxillary canine position can be determined by proportioning to certain anatomic landmarks. The study found that the expected distances between the canine cusps in both jaws were consistent with the measured distances, indicating that this proportioning method could be used in the treatment of edentulous patients.

Summary: Achieving sufficient implant stability in poor quality bone is a challenge, but specially designed dental implants have shown promise for higher stability in very soft bone. This experimental study compared two new dental implants and found that ICX Active Master implants had the highest stability values, followed by Conelog® Progressive-Line implants with the very soft bone protocol. Both implants showed sufficient primary stability for immediate loading in low-density bone, suggesting that thread design and underdimensioned implant bed preparation may be effective for better primary stability in cancellous bone.
