Summary: The study analyzed data from 77 MRONJ patients, with most receiving bisphosphonates for cancer (79%) and osteoporosis (17%). Pain was present in 67.5% of patients, with 36.5% experiencing moderate-to-severe pain. Female gender was significantly associated with pain, and osteonecrosis lesions after dental surgery had a higher risk of pain.

Summary: The study found that a drug holiday of 3 months for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in osteoporosis patients receiving antiresorptive agents does not promote sequestra separation or improve treatment outcomes, and early surgical therapy is recommended.

Summary: The study found that Au@ZIF-8/CAS can regulate the metabolic pathways and M1/M2 phenotype transition of macrophages, effectively treating bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ). In addition, Au@ZIF-8/CAS can promote osteogenesis and exhibit antibacterial properties in vitro, and its therapeutic potential for BRONJ was confirmed in vivo.

Summary: Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (MRONJ) is a difficult-to-treat complication of osteoporosis therapy and some malignancies cured with bisphosphonates and antiresorptive drugs. This study found that using a validated triple staining procedure for Actinomyces bacteria strains can detect a high rate of Actinomyces infection in MRONJ patient samples. The results suggest that the triple special staining should be the standard in MRONJ histology evaluation and can aid clinicians in selecting appropriate antibiotic medication for the elimination of actinomyces infection.

Summary: This article explores the complex relationship between bisphosphonates, commonly used for treating osteoporosis and tumors, and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ) after dental procedures. The impact of bisphosphonates on bone density and resorption and their effect on dental treatments are emphasized. Dental patients on bisphosphonates are at a higher risk of BRONJ, necessitating dentists' awareness of these risks. Topical applications of bisphosphonates enhance dental implant success and aid in periodontal treatment, while systemic administration significantly increases the risk of BRONJ, particularly in inflamed conditions. Preventive measures involve maintaining oral health, considering alternative treatments, and careful pre-operative and post-operative follow-ups. Future research could focus on finding bisphosphonate alternatives with fewer side effects or developing combinations that reduce BRONJ risk. This review underscores the need for further exploration of bisphosphonates and their implications in dental procedures.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of surgical and conservative treatment for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, with slightly better results reported after surgical treatment. However, there are issues with poor quality of evidence and high risk of bias in the research.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to describe the quality of life and oral health-related quality of life of patients affected by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Surgical treatment of the osteonecrosis was found to improve the quality of life of these patients. The study suggested a negative influence of osteonecrosis of the jaw on the quality of life and oral health-related quality of life among oncologic and osteoporotic patients.

Summary: Bisphosphonate-related ONJ and denosumab-related ONJ exhibit differences in imaging characteristics, with the former showing bone sequestra increase, cortical bone lysis, and bone density increase, while the latter showing larger bone sequestra, more frequent periosteal reactions, and mandibular canal enhancement.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare macrophage populations in the craniofacial and extracranial skeleton and investigate the changes induced by Zol application and surgical interventions. The results showed that there were significantly more macrophages and a heightened pro-inflammatory environment in the jaw bones compared to the tibia. Tooth extraction increased the number of macrophages and worsened the inflammatory environment in the jaw bones, which was amplified by Zol application. The study suggests that targeting macrophages could be an attractive strategy to prevent MRONJ.

Summary: The study identified a lead SNP, rs2736308 on chromosome 8, associated with an increased risk of MRONJ in patients with cancer and osteoporosis. This SNP is linked to genes regulating bone mineral density, providing insights into the potential mechanism of MRONJ.

Summary: This study analyzed medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in children and young patients, and its relation with oral surgery. The study found a low presence of MRONJ in children and young patients treated with antiresorptive drugs. Data collection was weak, and details of therapy were not clear in most of the included articles.
