Summary: Survival outcomes for radiotherapy-naive patients with recurrent oral squamous cell carcinoma were evaluated, with surgical therapy showing significantly better disease-free survival and overall survival compared to other treatment modalities. Presence of regional metastases and short disease-free interval between primary and recurrent cancer were significant predictors for adverse outcomes.

Summary: Histopathologic parameters, such as tumor depth of invasion and lymphovascular invasion, serve as independent predictors of nodal metastases in surgically treated tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Positive margins predict poor recurrence-free survival and local recurrence-free survival. Margins' status was the only independent predictor of local recurrence, while tumor depth of invasion, nodal and margin status were key prognosticators of survival.

Summary: Identifying risk factors for distant metastasis in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma is crucial for treatment planning, with primary intraosseous carcinoma of the mandible, cervical lymph node metastasis at levels IV and V, and the presence of pathological extranodal extension being significant factors. Aggressive treatment strategies should be considered for patients with these risk factors to prevent or manage distant metastasis.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a significant public health concern, but there is a lack of well-established indices that specifically relate to the patient and indicate a worse prognosis. This study assessed the prognostic impact of hematological indices in OSCC patients and found that the red cell distribution width (RDW) is a reliable parameter for assessing overall survival.

Summary: Oral cancer is a dangerous and common cancer, traditional microscopic biopsy image detection methods have limitations, and there is a high possibility of human error. With the development of technology, deep learning algorithms play an increasingly important role in the field of oral cancer image diagnosis, improving classification accuracy.

Summary: This study defines the prognostic role of LKB-1 expression in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity (SCCOC) and proposes a predictive model that complements the TNM staging system. The model allows for prediction of recurrence risk and survival rates, and defines prognostic groups for patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinical impact of minor risk factors in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients. The results showed that the invasive pattern and perineural invasion might be significant minor risk factors, and having >= 2 minor risk factors could predict a poor prognosis in OSCC patients.

Summary: The study found a higher number of Fusobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tumor tissue, with an increase of Prevotella in saliva from OSCC patients and a prevalence of Corynebacterium in healthy subjects. Additionally, adhesion and virulence factors associated with Streptococcus gordonii and Fusobacterium genera were detected in OSCC tissues, suggesting potential biomarkers for disease progression.

Summary: Retrospective evaluation of multiple indicators in blood samples revealed that low PNI was associated with shorter overall survival and disease-free survival, while women were associated with shorter disease-free survival.

Summary: Although ERa expression is rare in OSCC, it is associated with a dramatic decrease in overall survival in male patients. Further studies are needed to confirm these results and evaluate the exact mechanism underlying this observation. Therefore, ERa-positive OSCC patients might benefit from an ER-based therapeutic (adjuvant) approach in the future.

Summary: This study investigated the expression and clinical significance of SEC61G in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The findings showed a significant correlation between SEC61G expression and clinicopathological characteristics, as well as a worse prognosis in OSCC patients. Moreover, SEC61G expression was also associated with decreased immune infiltration in OSCC patients.

Summary: This study was the first randomized controlled clinical trial comparing surgical excision with standard care in patients with nondysplastic oral leukoplakia. The results suggest that regular clinical follow-up may be considered a reliable standard of care among patients with nondysplastic OLs, providing benefits compared to surgical excision.

Summary: In this study, the overall characteristics, clinical presentation, and outcome of gingival lesions in Italian patients with OLP were evaluated. Gingival lesions were found to be rare and unlikely to undergo malignant transformation. Gum lesions seemed to precede the appearance of oral lesions, and a higher rate of OLP therapy was observed in patients with less frequent dental check-ups and oral hygiene instructions.
