Summary: Chronic kidney disease and cardiac insufficiency often co-exist, especially in uremic patients on hemodialysis. Impaired renal function is often indicative of poor prognosis in patients with cardiac insufficiency. Inflammation plays a significant role in the development of cardiovascular complications in patients with chronic kidney disease and is indicative of prognosis.

Summary: Patients on hemodialysis with COVID-19 exhibit dysregulated immunity, increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and altered subsets of lymphocytes. The hemodialysis session in COVID-19 patients is associated with a further increase in inflammatory cytokines and monocyte activation. These findings suggest potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets to prevent or mitigate the deterioration during hemodialysis in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Summary: In-center hemodialysis (HD) can lead to a significant symptom burden and reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The effects of converting to in-center nocturnal hemodialysis (INHD) on HRQOL are unclear, particularly for those with poor HRQOL. A prospective cohort study showed that INHD could improve mental health components and symptoms/problems of kidney disease for patients with low baseline HRQOL. Improved phosphate control and reduced pill burden are additional medical benefits of transitioning to INHD.

Summary: This study investigated adverse events (AEs) after ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination in end-stage renal disease patients on hemodialysis. The results showed that some patients experienced local and systemic AEs, but the clinical significance of these symptoms was minor. The SCCS analysis did not find an elevated risk of vascular access thrombosis.

Summary: This study used ALFF and FC algorithms to investigate the alteration of brain function in hemodialysis patients with ESRD. The results showed that there were abnormalities in brain activity and connectivity in ESRD patients, mainly in the default mode network regions. The findings provide new evidence for understanding the possible underlying neuropathological mechanisms in patients with ESRD.
