Summary: ITB is a safe and effective treatment for spasticity in PLS patients, with most patients experiencing significant improvement after treatment although a few may experience pump-related complications. The duration of treatment varies depending on individual cases, but the majority of patients benefit from it.

Summary: Here, we present a case report of psychosis and malignant neuroleptic syndrome in a patient with Williams syndrome. We also discuss the potential pathological relationship between the onset of psychosis and severe anxiety in individuals with Williams syndrome. This case report contributes to the limited literature on psychiatric comorbidity in Williams syndrome.

Summary: Intrathecal dexamethasone therapy (IT-DEX) shows efficacy and safety in pediatric patients with febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES), potentially shortening the critical stage of the disease. The therapeutic effect of IT-DEX on FIRES may involve cytokine-independent mechanisms.

Summary: This study compared the characteristics and outcomes of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) during long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) and oral antipsychotic (OAP) treatment. There were no significant differences between the two treatments in terms of patient characteristics or severity of NMS symptoms, but the duration of NMS was longer with LAIs. Overall, LAIs and OAPs showed similar performance in managing NMS and its consequences.

Summary: This article presents the clinical features and treatment methods of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), emphasizing the effectiveness of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in acute treatment. A 52-year-old female patient with NMS-like symptoms induced by discontinuation of medication received urgent ECT and achieved rapid improvement. The study suggests that ECT has potential efficacy in reducing mortality associated with NMS and malignant catatonia.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study analyzes the complications of intrathecal baclofen pump (ITB) treatment. The results indicate that catheter-related complications are the most common, and there is a significant relationship between catheter occlusion and the pattern of spastic quadriparesis.

Summary: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a potentially fatal reaction to antipsychotics. Independent predictors of NMS mortality include lack of antipsychotic discontinuation, respiratory problems, severity of hyperthermia, and older age. Antipsychotic formulation and class were not related to death with NMS.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) often leads to spasticity, with neurogenic detrusor overactivity as a common complication. Our study investigated the effects of intrathecal baclofen (ITB) pump implantation on bladder function in TBI patients with spasticity. The results showed improved bladder function, with decreased incontinence and micturition episodes, and increased bladder capacity and reflex volume seen in urodynamic parameters. Further prospective studies are needed to fully understand the impact of ITB on bladder function.

Summary: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare and challenging-to-diagnose illness. This study reports a case of NMS induced by irregular use of antipsychotics and analyzes its mechanism. The interesting aspect of this case is the synergistic involvement of risperidone, antidepressants, opioids, and stress.
