Summary: Sleep is crucial for physical and emotional wellbeing, but insomnia is a prevalent issue. The interest in using herbal medicines for treating or preventing insomnia has grown. Herbal extracts have been shown to improve sleep quality, potentially through interactions with GABA receptors in the brain.

Summary: This study identified the effect of GABAR agonists on K-2P channel expression and activity in neuroblastic B35 cells. Muscimol, a GABA(A)R agonist, was found to significantly increase TREK-2 expression and activity, potentially reducing cellular excitability in GABAergic neurons through activating the TREK-2 channel.

Summary: In this study, a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on high-performance magnetically functionalized reduced graphene oxide (MRGO) was constructed for the sensitive detection of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the serum of depressed mice. It provides a basis for the objective diagnosis of depression in clinic.

Summary: A novel neurodevelopmental disorder associated with biallelic pathogenic variants in SLC4A10 has been identified, which exhibits learning difficulties, seizures, and characteristic brain imaging features. Dysfunction of GABAergic transmission may contribute to the disorder.

Summary: This study found significant differences in plasma metabolic signatures between COVID-19 patients and control group, primarily in lipid and amino acid metabolism. Protein systems biology analysis revealed that COVID-19 mainly impacted sphingolipid, tryptophan, tyrosine, glutamine, arginine, and arachidonic acid metabolism pathways. Additionally, decreased levels of GABA could serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for COVID-19 patients.

Summary: The study demonstrated that GABA-enriched adzuki bean sprout fermented milk may alleviate and even prevent mild depression symptoms in mice by enhancing social interaction and pleasure derived from movement. The research also highlighted the involvement of the GABA(B)-cAMP-PKA-CREB signaling pathway and increased neurotransmitter levels in the hippocampus after treatment. This suggests a potential dietary therapy for chronic social stress.

Summary: The study found that early prenatal exposure to VPA in mice led to tail deformation and decreased cerebellar weight and size, with reduced expression of GAD 65 and GAD 67 in the cerebellum of adult mice showing autistic behavior. Additionally, protein expressions of GAT-1 and GABAT were reduced in VPA mice, suggesting alterations in GABA production, recycling, and metabolism that could disrupt the excitatory-inhibitory balance in the autistic cerebellum.

Summary: The study explores the mechanisms behind zebrafish retinal regeneration by inhibiting specific GABA(A) receptors and demonstrates the potential to induce mammalian retina regeneration. Inhibition of GABA(A)-rho receptors also triggers retina regeneration, with dual inhibition of both GABA receptor subtypes leading to enhanced regeneration. Gene expression analyses suggest that GABA(A)-rho receptor inhibition induces a canonical retinal regenerative response.

Summary: A conserved amino acid sequence within the extracellular domain of GABAARs has been found to play an important role in the processing of the receptor within the endoplasmic reticulum. Mutations in this region impair the trafficking of the receptor to the cell surface and result in accumulation in the endoplasmic reticulum. These mutated receptors interact with molecular chaperones and show disrupted binding to calnexin, an important interaction for proper processing.

Summary: The research shows that cadmium can enter plants easily from the soil solution and cause harmful effects, even at low concentrations. The experiment conducted on lettuce (Lactuca sativa) demonstrates that the addition of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) can mitigate the toxicity of cadmium by promoting plant growth and enhancing antioxidant enzyme activity.
