Summary: Preclinical cancer research can be expensive, with in vitro studies often not representative of the tumor microenvironment and mouse studies being costly at scale. Using Japanese quail in chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assays, researchers have developed a cost-effective method to screen for anti-cancer efficacy and drug toxicity, demonstrating concordance with murine in vivo studies and suggesting potential for validating new anti-cancer agents.

Summary: In this study, a bioactive copolymer PSP was developed via a one-step synthesis strategy, which could self-assemble into nanoparticles and co-load hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. The resulting PSP nanoparticles exhibited long blood circulation, stability, and high tumor accumulation, leading to enhanced therapeutic effects on breast cancer and suppression of lung metastasis. In addition, the PSP nanoparticles themselves showed anti-breast cancer activity, highlighting their potential as therapeutic nanocarriers.

Summary: The study developed a bioactive copolymer, poly-(salicylic acid-co-phenylalanine) (PSP), through a one-step rapid synthesis strategy. The copolymer could self-assemble into nanoparticles (PSP-NPs) with efficient dual drug loading, leading to enhanced therapeutic effects on breast cancer and the suppression of lung metastasis. This new polymer and nanoparticles provide valuable insights into the development of new functional polymers and nanomedicines for important diseases.

Summary: The CAM model shows promise as an alternative to mouse models in terms of the 3Rs principles. However, further evaluation is needed to determine its value in noninvasive assessment of radiolabeled macromolecules using PET and MRI. This study analyzed the biodistribution and tumor accumulation of Zr-89-labeled albumin in both CAM and mouse models, and found no significant differences in albumin influx kinetics between the two models. These findings suggest that the CAM model could be a potential alternative for initial PET studies on the characteristics of EPR-dependent target accumulation of radiolabeled macromolecules.

Summary: This study used the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model to assess the target-specific binding of radiopharmaceuticals and investigated the feasibility of inhibition studies in the CAM model. The results demonstrated that the CAM model can be used to detect the receptor-specific binding of radiopharmaceuticals. This study provides an alternative to mouse experiments for early evaluation of promising radiopharmaceuticals.

Summary: This study examined the influence of intravenous (IV) or intragastric (IG) administration routes on the intrahepatic distribution and therapeutic effects of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs). Results showed different distribution patterns of IONPs in the liver depending on the route of administration, and demonstrated the therapeutic potential of IONPs in treating anemia. Proper selection of administration routes can modulate the distribution and therapeutic effects of nanoparticles, which is important in the theragnosis of liver disease.

Summary: The plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are efficient candidates in agricultural field to enhance crop yields and suppress plant diseases. The innovative delivery methods for PGPR are in significant demand due to the negative impact of changes in agro-climatic conditions on soil fertility and soil microbial community functioning. In this study, Pseudomonas sp. DN18 was entrapped in alginate beads along with supplemented salicylic acid (SA) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) to enhance its functional superiority and stability over free living bacteria based formulations.

Summary: Iron oxide coatings commonly affect the fate of heavy metals, with U(VI) transport in such environments rarely studied. This research found that the presence of iron oxide coatings enhances U(VI) adsorption, and the breakthrough curves show a two-plateau profile, suggesting the need to consider more sites for U(VI) in transport systems.

Summary: Researchers have reported a strategy for sensitive detection of dipicolinic acid (DPA) assisted by magnetic separation. By using poly(acrylic acid)-coated iron oxide nanoparticles as a magnetic carrier, only a necessary amount of Tb3+ ions are delivered to DPA in a sample solution, allowing for accurate photoluminescence measurement of the Tb3+-DPA complex with minimal background noise.

Summary: This study introduces a new synthesis method for core-shell magnetite nanoparticles with a secondary silica shell, functionalized with a linker system using microwave-assisted heating technique. The functionalized solid nanomaterial is utilized as a solid support for nanophase peptide synthesis, demonstrating effective synthesis of a short peptide sequence. Experimental results show that the magnetic properties of the nanoparticle core facilitate quick and easy magnetic separation of the product, streamlining intermediary washing and separation operations.

Summary: Mesoporous silica has been widely used as an efficient drug delivery system due to its porous structure. In this study, a novel synthesis method using Tween-20 and starch as templates for mesoporous silica synthesis was developed. The physicochemical features of the obtained material were analyzed, and vancomycin was loaded onto the material using three different approaches. The release rate and drug adsorption depth varied depending on the loading method.

Summary: The treatment of wounds remains a challenge for healthcare professionals, and the development of biocompatible and efficient medicines is a goal. Mesoporous materials loaded with bioactive compounds from natural extracts have potential for wound treatment. In this study, MCM-41-type mesoporous material was synthesized and characterized. The desorption degree of the natural extracts was monitored, and the active ingredients in the composite materials were quantified. The evaluation of the biological composites' activity on the wound site revealed their re-epithelializing properties.
