Summary: This study constructs a nanosystem for the sequential release of TRAIL and GOx to achieve synergistic cancer treatment. The nanosystem can quickly release TRAIL to induce tumor cell apoptosis and enhance the cellular uptake of the cores. It can also release GOx to trigger a cascade reaction to generate free radicals for tumor inhibition. Experimental results demonstrate the separate delivery of TRAIL and GOx and their remarkable synergistic anti-cancer effect.

Summary: Preterm birth is defined as delivery before 37 weeks of gestation, with 15 million infants born prematurely globally each year, increasing the risk of mortality and health challenges. While the only FDA approved therapy for preventing preterm birth in the U.S. has faced recent setbacks, interdisciplinary efforts are underway to develop next generation therapies to prevent preterm birth and save infant lives. This research aims to better identify women at risk for preterm birth, prevent premature labor, and ultimately improve outcomes for newborns.

Summary: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is a difficult-to-treat cancer with poor long-term survival rates. In this study, a 3D cell culture model of human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma was used to investigate the potential use of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) as a drug delivery system for the chemotherapeutic agent mitoxantrone (MTO). The results showed that MTO-loaded SPIONs induced cell death in tumor spheroids, with increased uptake in spheroids with a SMAD4 mutation. This suggests that MTO-loaded SPIONs could be a promising approach for treating pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas.
