Summary: The development of fast computational algorithms allows for the consideration of multiple hypotheses regarding trait co-adaptation and the possibility of distinguishing between these models using contemporary species measurements. Through the use of mvSLOUCH, we demonstrate the ability to perform studies with multiple competing hypotheses by analyzing two datasets on feeding styles and oral morphology in ungulates, and fruit evolution in Ferula plants. We find that Akaike's information criterion corrected for small sample size is effective in distinguishing between most models, although there may be bias towards simpler models in some cases. Measurement error and the sign of the drift matrix also impact identifiability capabilities. Having a larger repertoire of models can lead to a better understanding of the natural world by exploring their limitations and uncovering ways in which they are wrong.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare different models in terms of their suitability for practical applications in training planning. Six impulse-response models were tested and ranked based on Aikaike's information criterion and goodness of fit. The top two models (Ba model and Bu model) showed relevant approximations of the relationship between training and performance, but their ability to predict future performance from past data was not satisfactory for individual training planning.
