The dodecyl benzene sulfonic iron and p-toluenesulfonic iron were prepared and used in catalytic aquathermolysis of Xinjiang extra-heavy oil (8.5 x 10(4) mPas at 50 degrees C). The same and different influences on the aquathermolysis of heavy oil catalyzed by them were studied in depth and compared. The compositions and structure of oil sample before and after reaction were analyzed by element analysis instrument, H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the p-toluenesulfonic iron exhibit better viscosity reduction effect and more significant changes for the oil sample than the dodecyl benzene sulfonic iron.
