A simple and environmentally friendly one-pot three components methodology has been commented for the Biginelli condensation of different substituted aldehydes with ethyl acetoacetate and urea to afford the corresponding 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones under solvent-free conditions. H5PW10V2O40/Pip-SBA-15 was used as a non-toxic, inexpensive, and easily available organic-inorganic hybrid material as the catalyst. Utilization of easy reaction condition and simple work-up makes this methodology as an interesting option for the economic synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V.
