Summary: Various protonated organic amines were screened as catalysts for the synthesis of DHPMs and DHPs starting from furfurals. 1,4-Diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octanium diacetate (DABCO-DA) was found to be an efficient catalyst, leading to high yields (>85%) in an organic solvent-free reaction. The process parameters were optimized, and a general synthetic protocol was developed. The DABCO-DA catalyst could be recovered and reused for multiple cycles.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework with an octahedral morphology supported by a tungstosilicic acid (TSA) nanocatalyst was successfully synthesized. The hybrid material showed high catalytic activity due to the synergistic effect of exposed metal iron sites and the supported Bronsted acid sites. The environmentally friendly nano-catalyst could be recycled multiple times without significant loss in catalytic performance. This study also provides insights into the application of porous organic polymer functionalization in organic synthesis.

Summary: A novel process of cyclohexanol production based on cyclohexene esterification-hydrogenation using Cu(i) coordinated amino-functionalized poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs-Cu(i)) as catalysts has been developed. The PILs-Cu(i) exhibited excellent performance in the mild and highly selective hydrogenation of cyclohexyl acetate (CHA) to cyclohexanol (CHOL), achieving high conversion and selectivity. The catalyst also showed good stability and reusability after multiple recycling.

Summary: In this study, hexaethylene glycolic vinyl imidazolium was supported on N-vinyl caprolactam to form a heterogeneous catalyst for aliphatic nucleophilic substitution reactions using alkali metal salts. The catalyst showed high activity, selectivity, and stability, resulting in higher yields and reduced formation of by-products. This study demonstrates the efficiency of nucleophilic fluorination and substitution reactions in various sulfonyloxyalkanes and haloalkanes.

Summary: This study mixed RAFT-made poly(ionic liquid) chains with an ionic liquid, leading to homogeneous and transparent solutions due to similarities in structure and polarity. Rheology investigation showed that the solution's viscoelastic properties can be finely tuned by adjusting the chain molar mass and concentration. The high ionic conductivity and multi-scale local homogeneity of the PIL/IL solutions were confirmed through X-ray scattering experiments and microscopy analysis.

Summary: Various strongly basic ionic liquids were synthesized using hydroxyethoxy anion from ethylene glycol. The alkalinity of these liquids was equivalent to sodium methoxide and they exhibited good catalytic performance in transesterification reactions. By comparing with reported catalysts, the reaction mechanism was deduced and the activation energies were determined. A new catalyst circulation process without introducing impurities was proposed and verified.
