Summary: In this paper, we propose direct meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (DMLPG) methods for solving the two-dimensional variable-order time-fractional mobile/immobile advection-diffusion equation. The methods are based on the generalized moving least-square (GMLS) approximation and local weak form of the equation. Analytical results show the unconditional stability and convergence order of the time-discrete scheme. Numerical examples demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the methods in different domain configurations.

Summary: Global warming leads to the loss of coral symbionts and bleaching, which highlights the importance of coral recovery research for conservation. Lipidomic approach using supercritical fluid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry reveals the dynamics of storage lipids in coral during recovery from heat stress. The study shows that saturated monoalkyldiacylglycerols (MADAG) play a significant role in the energy balance of Sinularia heterospiculata after heat stress.

Summary: A three-dimensional, multi-component, single-phase model was used to analyze the electrochemical performance of a PEMFC with U-shaped channel. Factors such as convection and diffusion effects, membrane thickness, ionomer content, and current distribution were numerically studied. Results showed a 17% improvement in performance with a 2 mil membrane thickness compared to 3.5 and 5 mil, and a 7% enhancement at 0.5 volume fraction of ionomer in the catalyst layer was reported.

Summary: In this paper, we propose a three-tier numerical framework based on nonlinear manifold learning for the forecasting of high-dimensional time series. The framework successfully tackles the curse of dimensionality and utilizes techniques such as embedding, surrogate modeling, and pre-image reconstruction to achieve accurate predictions. The proposed method is also applicable to the numerical solution/propagation of partial differential equations. The performance of the method is evaluated on various problems, showcasing its effectiveness.

Summary: This study presents a nonparametric method for separating signal from noise using nonlinear-correlation functions. The method does not require a priori model, knowledge of system continuity or discreteness, fixed number of states, or knowledge of system Markovian property. The noise-corrected, nonlinear-correlation functions can be converted to system's Green's function and yield the system's equilibrium-probability distribution. Experimental results show that the proposed correlation method has better resolution in time and state space compared to other nonparametric approaches.

Summary: This article investigates a two species reaction-diffusion FRAP model through asymptotic analysis, deriving new FRAP recovery curve approximation formulae and predicting sufficient conditions for parameter estimation using Fisher information. The predictions are verified through extensive computational simulations, and methods for extracting maximum information from FRAP data in theoretically inestimable cases are proposed.

Summary: NK cells are more effectively stimulated to secrete various antibodies when encountering stiff targets compared to soft targets, which may impact NK cell recognition and response. Varying target stiffness can alter the mechanosensitivity of immune synapses, highlighting soft targets as a blind spot in NK cell recognition.

Summary: The afucosylation of CD20 mAb increases NK cell cytotoxicity and IFN gamma secretion, as well as leading to faster killing of target cells and increased efficiency in serial killing by NK cells, due to the loss of CD16 causing disassembly of the immune synapse.

Summary: Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta) plays a crucial role in inflammation and is regulated by the inflammasome. Stimulation of LPS-primed human macrophages with sub-lytic levels of the membrane attack complex (MAC) can activate the NLRP3 inflammasome and trigger IL-1 beta release. These findings demonstrate the involvement of MAC in inflammasome activation and IL-1 beta release in human macrophages.

Summary: Using super-resolution microscopy, this study compared extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by different human monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs). The researchers found variations in EV size and content between different MDM phenotypes. The study also identified differential expression of a specific protein, HLA-DR, on EVs secreted by different MDM phenotypes, including lung macrophages isolated from cancer patients. This quantitative analysis of EV heterogeneity can provide insights into macrophage biology and has implications for single-cell profiling.

Summary: This study used an Adeno-Associated Vector (AAV) to deliver the missing enzyme HGSNAT to MPSIIIC mice via intraparenchymal brain injections, and successfully corrected the disease. The use of Hamilton syringes resulted in improved distribution of AAV, despite lower vector doses and titres. Both AAV9 and AAV-TT serotypes primarily transduced neurons. These findings provide valuable information for the design of a clinical trial for MPSIIIC.
