Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage of patients who required a repeat elbow capsular release or other subsequent surgery after arthroscopic elbow release. The results showed that less than 5% of patients required a repeat capsular release, 12.9% required follow-up surgery, and 4.3% had a new injury of the elbow. Overall, patients saw improvement in elbow range of motion, but many still had residual symptoms after arthroscopic elbow capsular release.

Summary: This article proposes a method for estimating the stiffness of the elbow joint based on sEMG signals. By establishing the relationship between joint torque, joint angle, and joint stiffness, it enables flexible rehabilitation motion. The use of an improved regression algorithm and a time-domain descriptor sEMG feature improves the accuracy of joint angle recognition and achieves impressive regression performance.

Summary: Recent technological advances have brought changes to the design of robotics, allowing for safe and dependable physical human-robot interaction and human-like prosthesis. This study presents a new design for an anthropomorphic elbow variable stiffness actuator (VSA) and proposes a dynamic feedback linearization algorithm that takes into account the viscoelasticity of transmission elements. Experimental studies and simulations demonstrate improved trajectory tracking compared to static feedback control algorithms.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the diagnosis and treatment data of 21 children with chronic elbow dislocation and extremely severe periarticular stiffness. The results showed that open arthrolysis and open reduction and internal fixation were effective in treating children with chronic elbow dislocation and extremely severe stiffness. The range of motion and function of the joints were significantly improved after surgery.

Summary: Stiffness after elbow injuries can severely limit daily life. Surgical intervention should be considered if conservative treatment doesn't result in satisfactory improvement. This study systematically reviewed the literature from 2013 to 2021 and found that both open and arthroscopic arthrolysis provide satisfactory functional outcomes. Arthroscopic arthrolysis had lower rates of revisions and complications compared to open arthrolysis.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between high preoperative anxiety and depression scores and worse functional outcomes in open elbow arthrolysis (OEA) for posttraumatic elbow stiffness (PTES). The results showed that OEA can achieve good clinical outcomes in the short-term follow-up, regardless of whether the patients suffer from anxiety or depression. However, patients with a preoperative HADS score ≥11 had worse prognoses.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed the impact of combined medial-lateral approach open arthrolysis with and without hinged external fixation on functional outcomes in patients with severe elbow stiffness. The results showed no significant differences in range of motion, pain score, hand function score, and complications between the two groups, but patients without external fixation had significantly lower operation time and treatment cost than patients with external fixation.

Summary: In this study, a rational design strategy for enhancing the hydrogen evolution rate of conjugated polymers through modifying the surface chemistry with hydrophilic adenine group was demonstrated. The introduction of adenine groups improved the interactions between the polymer surface and water molecules, resulting in enhanced hydrophilicity and dispersity of the photocatalyst. Density functional theory calculations showed that the adenine-functionalized polymer exhibited significantly higher photocatalytic activity compared to alkyl-functionalized polymer, showcasing the effectiveness of side-chain engineering for organic photocatalysts.

Summary: In this study, the performance of interfacial materials in organic solar cells was improved by doping. The results showed that the doping of alkali metal salts with different counter anions had different effects on the device performance, with the salt containing C2O42- anion demonstrating the best performance under thick film conditions. The improvement in performance was attributed to the reduction in series resistance, dark current, charge recombination, and the enhancement of charge transport and extraction efficiency.

Summary: In this study, the role of backbone tuning of contemporary polymerized small-molecule acceptors (PSMAs) on the charge generation process was investigated. Experimental techniques, such as transient absorption spectroscopy and grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering, were used to analyze the impact of pi-pi and lamellar stackings on the diffusion of excitons in pristine films. The findings demonstrate that a higher charge-carrier device mobility improves the generation of free charge carriers and enhances the charge generation efficiency.
