Summary: In the recent nano-era, the incredible advancement of tailoring nanomaterials for various applications, especially the hybrid material made from organic and inorganic material, has gained huge interest. Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS) has notable properties and has been extensively explored by researchers in various fields, including sensing applications. This review provides an overview of silica-based hybrid material emergence and discusses its applications in biomedical, energy, engineering, catalysis, and electrochemical sensing fields. It also discusses the future scope of functionalized POSS materials in nano-interface for electrochemical, in-vivo, and bio-sensor applications.

Summary: The remineralizing potential of hydroxyapatite has led to its use in dental composites. However, the compatibility between hydroxyapatite and organic compounds is insufficient, resulting in low mechanical properties. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes show promise as additives to dental composites, and their modification of hydroxyapatite surfaces improves mechanical properties and reduces water sensitivity.

Summary: A unique 3D interconnected Si/SiOx/C nanorings were successfully fabricated via AlCl3-assisted aluminothermic reduction, showing great potential in the field of lithium ion batteries. The obtained nanorings exhibited uniform diameter and well distribution of C and Si elements, along with superior high-rate capacity and good cycle stability as an anode for LIBs. Furthermore, they delivered high reversible capacity at ultra-low temperature, broadening the application possibilities of POSS.

Summary: This study investigates the improvement of lubricating coatings by covalently grafting octa-amino polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) onto polyimide (PI) matrix. The results show that the addition of POSS enhances the tensile strength, nano-hardness, and wear resistance of the coatings without affecting the breaking elongation. This improvement can be attributed to the increased cohesion strength and load-bearing capacity of the composite coatings reinforced by POSS.

Summary: The use of phenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) as a hydrophobic support for Cu/ZnO catalyst enables direct CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The CuZnPOSS nanoparticles exhibit high selectivity and stability, with a yield of 3.8% methanol and a conversion of 4.4% CO2 within 18 hours. The use of microbatch reactors allows for rapid and effective catalyst screening.

Summary: The effects of POSS compounds on the combustion performance of HTPB propellants were investigated, showing that ODNPS and ONPS are low sensitive energetic compounds. Summary: By introducing methacryl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (Ma-POSS), the holographic performance of phenanthraquinone-doped poly(methyl of high sensitivity, high diffraction efficiency, and neglectable volume shrinkage for holographic data storage has been dramatically enhanced. Ma-POSS significantly increases the photosensitivity by 5.5 times and improves diffraction efficiency by more than 50%, while suppressing volume shrinkage over 4 times. The molecular weight is increased by grafting PMMA to be a star-shaped macromolecule, and the residual C=C of POSS-PMMA enhances the photosensitivity. The addition of star-shaped POSS-PMMA as a plasticizer further enhances the mechanical properties and reduces photoinduced volume shrinkage.

Ma-POSS increases the photosensitivity, diffraction efficiency, and suppresses volume shrinkage. The molecular weight of PQ/PMMA is increased by grafting PMMA into star-shaped macromolecules. Summary: By adding different amounts of MA0735 into novolac cyanate ester resin, novolac cyanate ester-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS, MA0735) copolymers were prepared and analyzed for their curing behaviors and properties. The polymer with 0.5% MA0735 showed optimal comprehensive properties, combining heat resistance and impact toughness.
