A novel inorganic-organic hybrid (H(2)DAB)(Pb2I6)center dot 2H(2)O, is employed as a new nitrite detection reagent with extremely high sensitivity and selectivity, in which the organic component features dual functions that afford a self-supplied acidic environment and act as a reagent for spectrophotometrically detecting nitrite anions. This new nitrite detection reagent effectively simplifies the test procedure and can be used to qualitatively distinguish nitrites with the naked eye in rural and remote areas.
