Summary: Eight novel C60-BODIPY-Triarylamine electroactive triads were synthesized and characterized, and the effect of different linkers and functionalization on the electronic properties were studied. The compounds showed strong absorption of visible light and photo-induced electron transfer, confirmed by solvatochromic effects and redox potentials. The study also found that the pyrrolidine derivatives were more stable than isoxazoline analogs and alkoxy units improved thermal endurance.

Summary: A new one-step method for functionalizing C-60 with lactones has been developed, leading to the synthesis of a previously unknown class of materials, namely 1-lactonyl-2-hydro[60]fullerenes. The mechanism of this reaction has been proposed based on the structure of reaction products and deuterium-incorporated experiments.

Summary: The novel compounds BDP(Pyr)2 and BDP(Iso)2 show strong interaction in the excited state, generating charged species between BODIPY and the two C-60 units. The electronic interaction is stronger in BDP(Iso)2 than in BDP(Pyr)2, likely due to isoxazoline ring conjugation. Fluorescence lifetime measurements confirm that BDP(Iso)2 performs better even at different solvent polarities.

Summary: A novel and efficient copper-mediated [3 + 2] heteroannulation reaction has been developed for the synthesis of fullerooxazoles. The reaction mechanism involves unique C-CN and N-OH bond cleavages and subsequent C-OH bond formation for N-hydroxybenzimidoyl cyanides. Furthermore, the formed fullerooxazoles can be further electrochemically transformed into amidated 1,2-hydrofullerenes.

Summary: In this paper, a systematic study on the photochemical behavior of fullerene compounds with various organic addends attached to the cage was presented. It was found that the yield of photodimerization products strongly depends on the structure and electronic properties of the material, especially the electron affinity of the modified fullerene core. A proposed alternative mechanism involving photoinduced charge separation and back charge transfer events leading to the formation of triplet excitons was supported by experimental and theoretical evidence. This mechanism provides a way to control the photochemical behavior of fullerene derivatives and has potential applications in stable organic photovoltaics and improving the efficiency of organic solar cells by suppressing back charge transfer and hindering the formation of triplet excitons.

Summary: The sluggish kinetics of the oxygen-evolution reaction (OER) during water oxidation leads to high overpotential for water splitting. Carbon-based material/Mn oxide composites, such as the Mn oxide/fullerene soot (MnOx/FS) composite studied in this research, have been reported as efficient OER catalysts. Compared to pristine FS, the OER activity of MnOx/FS is 2.5 times higher at 2.25 V vs. RHE.

Summary: An efficient cascade reaction involving [60]fullerene and arylglyoxals catalyzed by CuCl2 . 2H(2)O and 4-dimethylaminopyridine has been successfully utilized to synthesize epoxy-bridged C-60-fused lactones. The unique reaction mechanism and subsequent derivatizations of the obtained products were explored, with the structures being confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The application of the derived fullerene products in perovskite solar cell devices has been demonstrated.

Summary: The authors analyzed the performance of donor-acceptor fullerene dyads in dye-sensitized solar cells, finding that the amount of exact exchange at short and long range electron-electron distances is key for successful predictions. Tuning these parameters significantly improves the performance of current density functional approximations.

Summary: This study reports the oxidative [4 + 2] reaction of o-phenylenediamine-derived disulfonamides with fullerene C-60 and C-70. The reactants with electron deficiency showed high reactivity. The reaction of C-70 exhibited unusual regioselectivity, yielding a [5,6]-adduct as the major product, which was characterized by experimental and computational methods.

Summary: This study focuses on the design and synthesis of two novel wide-bandgap polymer donors, PBDT and PBDT-S, which exhibit similar photovoltaic performance and optical properties and good compatibility with the narrow-bandgap acceptor Y6. NF-PSCs based on PBDT:Y6 show an impressive power conversion efficiency, while NF-PSCs based on PBDT-S:Y6 demonstrate moderate efficiency.

Summary: The reaction of phthalaldehyde with tosylhydrazide and alcohols unexpectedly leads to the formation of phthalazinium salts, which can be used as precursors for generating azomethine ylides and functionalizing the fullerene C-60. These fullerene derivatives, incorporating substituents from readily accessible alcohols, show encouraging power conversion efficiencies in perovskite solar cells and possess tunable optoelectronic properties for potential application in organic electronics and photovoltaics.

Summary: In this work, the application of supramolecular chemistry concepts in dendritic assemblies enabled the formation of advanced dendrimer-based nanotheranostic devices with unique properties. The vesosomes emitted green nontraditional intrinsic fluorescence (NTIL) and showed stability in biological medium, as well as cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. The self-organization of dendrimers into tertiary structures promoted the emergence of new properties, allowing the same component to function as both antitumoral drug and fluorophore.
