Summary: Efficient cathode-ray scintillation coordination polymers with good stability at high voltage were prepared by conjugating luminescent groups with d(10) metal ions. The synergistic effect of inorganic metal and organic ligand suppresses the self-quenching of the conjugated luminescent groups and enhances the scintillation performance. This work provides new ideas for the design of new field-emission displays and cathode-ray scintillation materials.

Summary: We report the efficient one-step separation of ethylene (C2H4) from acetylene (C2H2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) using an ultramicroporous metal-organic framework UTSA-16. UTSA-16 exhibits high uptakes for C2H2 and CO2 due to electrostatic potential matching, as well as excellent separation selectivity against C2H4. This material can efficiently separate 99.9% pure C2H4 from ternary mixtures with a high productivity of 403 L kg(-1).

Summary: Inspired by natural photosynthesis, a novel 3D cobalt-based MOF (GXY-L8-Co) with good chemical stability and oxygen evolution performance was synthesized for artificial water oxidation. It has been shown that the uniform distribution of catalytic active sites in the MOF framework plays a key role in enhancing catalytic performance.

Summary: Metal-organic framework (MOF) nanomaterials exhibit matrix coordination-induced emission and quenching effects, with their fluorescence regulated by the ligand-to-metal charge transfer process. This LMCT process acts as a fluorescent switch in MOF nanomaterials, regardless of their morphology, even when ground into amorphous structures.

Summary: The global popularity of membrane separation is growing due to its high energy efficiency, small footprint, low capital, and operating cost, and especially its environmentally friendly process flexibility. However, the achieved membrane separation efficiency is still far from the potential value predicted by material simulation mostly due to the existence of undesirable membrane imperfections and defects. This review presents the recent opportunities and challenges in polycrystalline membrane fabrication, emphasizing the issue of unfavorable defect formation. State-of-the-art solutions and strategies for mitigating defects have been reviewed and evaluated in detail.

Summary: Adsorption-based techniques for gas separation using nanoporous materials are widely studied. Systematic identification of the best-performing materials for a given application is still an open problem. This study presents a machine-learning-assisted screening process, which includes fast grid calculation of interaction energies and newly designed geometrical descriptors, to predict the selectivity of nanoporous structures under different operating conditions. The proposed method shows promising results in the separation of a xenon/krypton mixture, demonstrating its potential for preselecting the best performing materials.

Summary: A facile strategy has been developed to construct defect-free and flexible metal-organic framework (MOF)-based membranes with high selectivity. The fabricated soft-solid MOF composite membranes showed excellent separation performance for H-2/CO2 separation. This study demonstrates the potential of MOF-based membranes in practical separation applications.

Summary: The size and temperature of metal-organic framework (MOF) nanocrystals affect their optical absorption spectra, resulting in size and temperature-dependent optical behaviors. The optical gaps of MOF nanocrystals decrease at higher temperatures due to the dynamic nature of MOF metal-linker bonds. Smaller nanocrystals induce larger decreases in optical gaps. These results suggest that the optical behavior of MOF can be manipulated through composition, temperature, and dimensionality.
