Summary: Photonic crystal patterns with angle-dependent colors are a promising anti-counterfeiting material. Delicate PC patterns can be fabricated by silkscreen printing of photo-curable SiO2/monomer PC inks on the substrate, followed by UV irradiation to fix the PC structures. The resulting PC marks show noticeable angle effects, uniform color distribution, and good mechanical and chemical stabilities. Different silk screen stencils are investigated to achieve the best color intensity and printing resolution. As a demonstration of their anti-counterfeiting functions, the PC patterns exhibit color changes and reversible switches under different angles.

Summary: A novel approach to constructing patterned photonic crystals via screen printing was designed and achieved. Patterned PCs with high-saturation iridescent effect were prepared by printing a hydrophilic polymer paste on a hydrophobic fabric and scraping liquid photonic crystals on the fabric. Complex multistructural color patterns were achieved by adjusting the nanosphere size and using multistep printing and scraping.

Summary: We propose a rapid and simple method to create Ag nanostructures by using direct mechanical patterning and thermal annealing. The Ag nanostructures are obtained from ionic Ag ink coating that is spin-coated onto the desired substrate and then reduced by thermal annealing. The study systematically investigates the optimal patterning conditions and demonstrates the tunable photonic functionality of Ag architecture.

Summary: A technique combining ink-jet printing and electrodeposition is introduced to fabricate pattern electrodes on silk fibroin and polyurethane composite films. The addition of polyurethane improves the chemical properties of silk fibroin while maintaining its permeability and biocompatibility. Different pattern electrodes are successfully printed using ink-jet printing technology, and a layer of nickel is electrodeposited to protect and enhance the conductivity of the electrodes. This technique is beneficial for the manufacture of next-generation in vivo/vitro bioelectronic devices.

Summary: A platform technology for transferring opal films and photonic gel films to flexible substrates was demonstrated in this study. pH-responsive and temperature-responsive sensors were successfully fabricated on PET films using the same transfer method, showing excellent sensitivity and repeatability. Dual sensors of pH-responsive and temperature-responsive IOPG were sequentially fabricated on a single PET film due to the advantageous feature of the transfer method.

Summary: This work demonstrates controlled area-selective deposition of aluminum oxide phosphate (AlPO) at room temperature and near atmospheric pressure using a potentially zero-waste aerosol jet fog (ajFOG) deposition system. The process involves coating Octyl-trichlorosilane (OTS-8) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on SiO2/Si substrates, forming hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions through ultraviolet/ozone exposure, and selectively depositing AlPO onto the hydrophilic regions. Smooth films with sharp boundaries are achieved, with investigation into features and defects as a function of various parameters.
