Summary: We synthesized and characterized Cu(ii) complexes CuL1-CuL6 with cyclen-based ligands. The ligands L-1-L-6 comprise different donor sets including S and O atoms. The substitution of N donor atoms with hard donor O atoms leads to efficient oxidative nucleases, but dissociation of the complex upon reduction. We are showing that the rational combination of O and S atoms next to two nitrogen donors within the macrocycle leads to the stabilization of both redox states, resulting in the highest oxidative DNA cleavage activity within this family of cyclen-based Cu(ii) complexes.

Summary: A diamido-bridged dicobalt complex supported by a diamidonaphthalene ligand, Cp*Co2(2)(mu-1,8-C10H8(NH)(2)) (1), was synthesized and its reactivity towards redox transformations of the Co2N2 core was investigated. It was found that the Co(II)-Co(II) bond can be protonated, resulting in the formation of a bridging hydride [1H](+). The diamidonaphthalene ligand stabilizes the Co(II)Co(III) mixed-valent state (1(+)), which can bind CO to form [1-CO](+). Surprisingly, the mixed-valent complex also activates H2O to give a Co(III)Co(III) hydroxy complex [1-OH](+), accompanied by the release of H2.

Summary: In this study, the coordination properties of ligands were investigated by modifying their side chain structure. The results showed that the length of the aliphatic linker, isomers of the amide group, and the type of chiral terminal group all had an impact on the coordination properties. Additionally, DFT calculations provided insights into the stability of isomers and the potential hydrogen bonding between ligands in a ML2 complex.

Summary: Three coordination compounds were synthesized and characterized from the reaction of copper(ii) bromide with the flexible bis-tetrazole organosulfur ligand, 1,2-bis(1-methyl-1H-tetrazole-5-ylthio)ethane (bmtte). Different reaction conditions led to the formation of polymeric 2 & INFIN;Cu2Br4(bmtte) (1), trinuclear [Cu3Br4(bmtte)(2)] (2), and tetranuclear [Cu2Br2(bmtte)](2) (3) compounds with different structures. The thermal stability, aqueous behavior, and reactivity of the compounds were investigated, and a new polymeric compound (8Cu4I4)-Cu-2(bmtte)(2) (4) was prepared through solid-state reaction and microwave irradiation. The redox behavior of the compounds was analyzed by cyclic voltammetry.

Summary: The reactive HO/(Salophen(t-Bu))Co(ii) radical pair is generated through homolysis of the terminal Co(iii)-OH bond in transient (Salophen(t-Bu))(L)Co(iii)(OH) complexes, as confirmed by UV-Vis and EPR measurements. This elementary process enables C-H bond activations in acetone, 2-butanone, acetonitrile, and benzene under ambient conditions. The products obtained from the reactions of the first three substrates are alkylcobalt(iii) complexes.
