Summary: Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy may lead to a slightly higher risk of mucosal perforation compared to open pyloromyotomy for IHPS. The evidence is uncertain regarding the risk of incomplete pyloromyotomy, postoperative complications, length of stay, time to full feeds, and operating time, with very low certainty due to study limitations.

Summary: This study introduced an individualized and precise total laparoscopic surgical procedure based on 3D remodeling for portal hypertension (PHT). The results showed that this surgical treatment is not only effective in preventing variceal bleeding and improving liver function, but also increases long-term survival.

Summary: In a multicenter randomized trial conducted in the Netherlands, laparoscopic gastrectomy did not show a significant advantage over open gastrectomy in terms of hospital stay, postoperative complications, and oncological outcomes for Western patients with predominantly advanced gastric cancer undergoing multimodality treatment. Both procedures demonstrated similar results in postoperative complications and oncological efficacy.

Summary: This study compares the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic hepatic caudate lobectomy (LHCL) with open hepatic caudate lobectomy (OHCL) for treating liver tumor. The results show that LHCL is as effective as OHCL with no significant differences in intraoperative and postoperative parameters. However, LHCL has the advantage of smaller incision length and lower intraoperative blood loss compared to OHCL. Moreover, LHCL significantly reduces the proportion of patients with severe pain and dezocine consumption 48 hours after surgery.

Summary: The study aimed to compare laparoscopic bilioenteric anastomosis with open repair in patients with post-cholecystectomy BBS. The results showed significantly less intraoperative blood loss, shorter time to resume oral diet, and shorter postoperative hospital stay in the laparoscopy group, with a lower overall morbidity rate compared to the open repair group.

Summary: It is increasingly important to develop assessment criteria for the quality of nanoplastics studies. This study attempts to establish such criteria based on existing standards for engineered nanomaterials, specifically focusing on polystyrene nanoparticles. Additional nanoplasticspecific criteria were proposed to address polymer chemical composition, source, production, impurities/chemical additives, density, hydrophobicity, color, and chemical leaching. The study concludes that existing quality assessments for nano(ecotoxicity) studies can be refined and applied to nanoplastics studies, with implications for microplastics research.

Summary: Peer coaching programs should be voluntary, involve bidirectional learning, and provide CME credits. Motivations for surgeons to participate in coaching include desire to learn new techniques, staying up to date with surgical practice evolution, and improving patient outcomes. Barriers to program implementation include surgical culture, perceived lack of need, logistical constraints, and issues in coach-coachee dynamics.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed elective major colorectal surgery cases performed in a single center between January 2017 and July 2019. It found that approximately half of ED visits within 30 days of discharge were potentially preventable, with superficial wound infection and non-infectious gastrointestinal issues being the most common preventable causes. The creation of a new stoma was identified as the only independent risk factor for potentially preventable ED visits.

Summary: This review aims to explore how recent surgical education research incorporates cognitive load. The findings indicate that cognitive load can be measured using subjective questionnaires and objective measurements, and higher cognitive load is observed in training for complex tasks and among less experienced trainees. The theory of cognitive load has been incorporated into designing teaching programs.
