Summary: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome among breast cancer survivors in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia was found to be 50.5%, with triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, and HDL-c level being the most prevalent abnormal metabolic components. Issues such as weight, BMI, waist circumference, body fat percentage, and cancer stages were significantly different between those with and without metabolic syndrome among the study participants.

Summary: Atherosclerosis, characterized by the formation of lipid plaques in vessel walls, is responsible for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), which includes coronary artery disease (CAD), peripheral vascular disease (PAD) and cerebrovascular disease (CCVD). Besides low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), disturbances in triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels also contribute to ASCVD. The TG/HDL-C ratio has been proposed as a novel biomarker for predicting the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and CVD. This review aims to present and discuss the scientific and clinical data linking the TG/HDL-C ratio with MetS and CVD to prove its value as a predictor for each aspect of CVD.

Summary: This study found an association between Metabolic syndrome and its components with the incidence of cholelithiasis, with a higher number of MetS components associated with an increased risk of cholelithiasis. Among MetS components, low HDL cholesterol level was found to be the most relevant factor for incident cholelithiasis.

Summary: A randomized clinical trial found that crocin supplementation significantly increased HDL CUC and improved serum HDL functionality in patients with MetS. The decision tree analysis showed that serum HDL functionality was more important than HDL-C level in predicting patients with hypertension. Crocin administration for 8 weeks was effective in improving serum HDL CUC in patients with MetS.

Summary: The prevalence of dyslipidemia and high Lp(a) is high in the Lebanese population, and is associated with age, high BMI, and male sex. Lp(a) is higher in women without any correlation with the lipid profile, whereas PCSK9 is associated with non-HDL-C and TG.

Summary: The study found that raloxifene can significantly increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in women, while significantly reducing total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Additionally, a significant decrease in serum triglycerides levels can be observed with raloxifene treatment duration of <= 26 weeks and baseline TG concentrations of <= 130 mg/dL.

Summary: Tibolone treatment decreases total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, with a significant reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol observed when administered for <= 26 weeks. The decrease in triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations is more pronounced in patients with a BMI >= 25 kg/m(2).

Summary: The study results indicate that Martin's LDL-C estimation equation performs well in estimating direct LDL-C, showing superiority in both the general population and dyslipidaemia populations. Regardless of the TG levels, MLDL has better performance compared to other equations. For individuals with mild-to-moderate hypertriglyceridaemia, Martin's equation may be the optimal choice for LDL-C estimation and ASCVD risk assessment.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the differences in serum lipid concentrations between migraine patients and healthy controls. Results showed higher levels of LDL-C, TC, and TG in migraine patients compared to healthy controls, but no significant difference in HDL-C. Adjusting for confounding factors may affect the measured values.

Summary: Nocturnal hypertension is a significant predictor of early-onset preeclampsia in high-risk pregnancies, with a high prevalence among affected women. Office and ambulatory blood pressure measurements show distinct differences between different types of preeclampsia, with a stronger predictive value for early-onset PE.

Summary: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of masked chronic hypertension in pregnant women classified as gestational hypertension and to compare the risks of developing preeclampsia in true gestational hypertension vs those women classified as having gestational hypertension but who had had masked hypertension in the first half of pregnancy. The study found that 59% of women initially diagnosed as gestational hypertensive according to current recommendations had masked chronic hypertension and a very high risk of developing preeclampsia.
