Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinical and radiological progression of patients with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis who underwent proximal fibular partial excision (PFPE) surgery. The results showed that PFPE surgery was effective in reducing pain and improving function, but did not significantly improve preoperative and postoperative tibiofemoral angle and JLCA measurements.

Summary: The study found that high fibular osteotomy (HFO) delayed the progression of articular cartilage damage and suppressed subchondral bone remodeling in a KOA rabbit model. HFO also decreased inflammation and modulated specific molecular pathways, indicating its potential therapeutic effect in treating medial compartment KOA.

Summary: This meta-analysis critically assessed the clinical and radiological outcome of proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) in the management of medial compartment knee osteoarthritis. The results showed that PFO successfully improved knee function and pain levels in patients, with minimal complication rates. Additionally, PFO was associated with an improved medial/lateral joint space ratio.

Summary: The study compared the perioperative complications, short-term clinical outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, and radiographic parameters of tibiofibular proximal osteotomy combined with absorbable spacer insertion (TPOASI) and open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) in a two-year postoperative time period. The results showed that both TPOASI and OWHTO had satisfactory functional outcomes and pain relief, but TPOASI had fewer complications and was a simpler and more feasible method, hence it could be widely used.

Summary: The study demonstrates that patients undergoing PFO for medial joint OA of the knee can maintain significant improvements in pain relief, clinical function, and radiological outcomes for a period of one year postoperatively.

Summary: This study evaluated the distribution of subchondral bone density across the proximal tibia in nonarthritic knees and knees of patients with osteoarthritis before and after high tibial osteotomy (HTO). Results showed that HTO shifted the high-density areas of the medial compartment of the proximal tibial articular surface toward the lateral compartment, with an increase in the most lateral region of the medial compartment.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate patient satisfaction after proximal fibular osteotomy and identify risk factors for dissatisfaction. The study found that proximal fibular osteotomy is a simple and effective treatment for medial osteoarthritis patients, with a majority of patients being satisfied with the treatment outcome at mid- to long-term follow-up. However, severe medial osteoarthritis is an independent risk factor for dissatisfaction.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of Medial opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) on ankle symptoms and ankle and hindfoot alignments in patients with different severity of ankle osteoarthritis (OA). The study found that ankle pain worsened in patients with severe ankle OA, while patient-reported outcome measures for the knee joint showed no differences between the two groups of patients.

Summary: Osteoarthritis of the medial compartment is a common orthopaedic presentation, with total knee replacement being the traditional treatment choice, despite involving the removal of healthy joint surfaces. However, there is a growing trend towards less invasive surgeries like uni-compartmental knee replacement and high tibial osteotomy, which show more favorable patient-reported outcomes compared to total knee replacement.

Summary: This study evaluated and compared the clinical and radiographic outcomes of proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) in treating patients with medial knee osteoarthritis (KOA) with upper fibular curvature. Patients with upper fibular curvature showed better pain relief, functional recovery, and alignment correction after PFO surgery, making it an optimal surgical indication for medial KOA.

Summary: This study demonstrated that MOWHTO combined with arthroscopic microfracture can effectively improve clinical outcomes in the treatment of varus medial compartmental knee osteoarthritis. Cartilage regeneration can be promoted by correcting varus deformities, which affects clinical outcomes.

Summary: This study examined the outcomes of proximal fibular osteotomy in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The results showed significant improvements in medial joint space, lateral joint space, tibiofemoral angle, and range of movement after the surgery. Overall, proximal fibular osteotomy can be a suitable surgical technique for patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Summary: This study compares clinical outcomes after isolated osteotomy with or without cartilage repair. It found limited evidence with substantial heterogeneity between studies, and no conclusion can be made regarding the role of additional cartilage procedures in treating osteoarthritis or focal chondral defects of the knee joint.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of various demographic, structural, radiographic, and clinical factors on the prognosis of patients with medial compartmental knee osteoarthritis with varus deformity undergoing medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) in combination with bone marrow concentrate (BMC) injection. The results showed improvement in structural and radiographic outcomes and significant symptom relief. Greater symptom severity at baseline and lower Kellgren-Lawrance (KL) grades were correlated with better post-operative clinical outcomes. BMI, femorotibial angle, age, and sex may also play a role in influencing the extent of symptom relief.
