Summary: Although traditional ECG-LVH criteria have some association with echocardiographic LVH, they show distinct relationships with stenosis severity in aortic stenosis. Among these criteria, the Cornell voltage criterion has a moderate diagnostic superiority in identifying anatomic LVH.

Summary: This study characterized the LV geometry, myocardial matrix structural changes, and prognostic stratification in severe AS patients with and without LVH using CMR and echocardiography. The results showed that LVH patients had worse cardiac function and structural abnormalities, but LVH was not associated with a higher risk of adverse outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the relationship between left ventricular (LV) three-dimensional shape at MRI and incident cardiovascular events over 10 years. Results showed that adding LV remodeling signatures to traditional cardiovascular risk factors improved the prediction of heart failure, coronary heart disease, and cardiovascular disease events over 10 years.

Summary: A genome-wide association study on 43,000 UK Biobank participants using cardiac magnetic resonance-derived left ventricular mass index identified 12 associations, including 11 novel ones, related to cardiac contractility and cardiomyopathy. The study demonstrates the association between indexed left ventricular mass and incident cardiomyopathy, as well as implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implant. The findings highlight the importance of cardiac magnetic resonance in assessing cardiovascular risk.

Summary: This study investigates the cardio-protective capabilities of the anti-oxidant melatonin for treating adverse right ventricular remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The findings suggest that melatonin activates the Mst1-Nrf2 pathway, reducing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and mitochondrial oxidative stress. In vivo, melatonin pre-treatment significantly improves cardiac function, right ventricular hypertrophy, fibrosis, and dilation in PAH rats. These beneficial effects are associated with upregulation of the Mst1-Nrf2 pathway and reduced oxidative stress. Melatonin's therapeutic effects are similar to or even superior to N-acetyl cysteine, a confirmed antioxidant treatment for PAH.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether arterial stiffness (AS) is associated with cardiac target organ damage in young adults with diabetes and whether cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) is associated with AS. The study found that AS is significantly associated with cardiac structure, systolic function, and diastolic function. However, CAN-induced AS does not appear to be an etiology for cardiac abnormalities in this cohort. These relationships were mostly similar in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Summary: Hypertension in women is associated with greater risk of organ damage and cardiovascular disease, even at lower blood pressure levels. Women experience a steeper increase in blood pressure starting from the third decade, compared to men. Studies suggest that the risk of acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation increases at a lower level of blood pressure in women compared to men.

Summary: Long-standing hypertension can lead to aortic remodelling, particularly ascending aorta dilatation due to haemodynamic overload. This study analyzed the spectrum of AscAo dilatation using different anthropometric criteria in treated hypertensive patients, and found that indexing AscAo for body surface area (BSA) leads to inconsistent negative association with obesity and metabolic abnormalities, while indexing for height presents consistent pathophysiologic profile. Sensitivity analysis showed that AscAo and AscAo/HT are significantly associated with incident cardiovascular events, while indexation for BSA is not, suggesting that the use of AscAo/BSA should be discouraged.
