Summary: A 36-month weight management programme in Ningbo, China showed that participants achieved significant initial weight loss at 3 months and maintained the weight loss during 33-month follow-ups. At 36 months, a certain percentage of participants achieved 5%, 10%, and 15% weight loss. The programme is suggested to benefit overweight and obese adults in reducing body weight and maintaining long-term weight loss.

Summary: The problem of overweight and obesity is increasing in the population and is associated with metabolic disorders and increased risk of death. This study assessed the changes in body composition and physical fitness in children participating in a weight-loss program and found a possible relationship between changes in body composition and improvements in fitness. Both BIA and DXA methods were equally useful for measuring body composition.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the dropout rate at 2, 6, and 12 months after an inpatient multidisciplinary residential program (MRP) for the treatment of obesity. The results showed an increasing dropout rate over time, and a correlation between higher BMI and percentage of fat mass lost with dropout risk.

Summary: Obesity is a disease caused by the accumulation of fat, and dietary intervention is the primary treatment. Intermittent energy restriction diets have been proven effective for weight loss and have beneficial effects on metabolic parameters. This provides an alternative option for individuals who cannot adhere to continuous dietary restrictions.

Summary: Early dropout and treatment adherence are major challenges in the treatment of children with obesity. This study aims to identify factors associated with attrition and adherence. Male sex, low parental education, and self-referral to the clinic were correlated with dropout, while older age and the mother's healthy lifestyle were correlated with adherence. Sex, parental education, and referral source may predict treatment attrition. Early recognition of children at risk of attrition may help improve their care.

Summary: This meta-analysis study found that probiotic supplementation can significantly reduce BMI, waist circumference, and hip circumference in overweight and obese patients, but the effect on body weight is not significant. Although there is a positive trend, further research is needed before recommending probiotics as a therapeutic strategy for these patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of web-based interventions for weight change in overweight and obese adults. The analysis of 97 articles showed that components such as social support, self-monitoring, information about health consequences, and goal setting played important roles in achieving effectiveness. The study demonstrated that web-based interventions have significant effects on weight change in individuals with overweight and obesity.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cancer. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of an intensive lifestyle program in reducing the prevalence of MetS in adults with obesity. The results showed that implementation of the IGOBE program resulted in a significant reduction in MetS prevalence and better control of MetS features compared with the standard of care.

Summary: Losing 5-10% or more of initial body weight can improve obesity-related comorbidities, but achieving and maintaining this weight loss level is challenging. The novel anti-obesity medication semaglutide, when used as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity, helps patients achieve average weight losses of 9.6-17.4% of initial body weight at week 68 and improves cardiometabolic and psychosocial indices. Factors to consider for the selection and use of this medication include efficacy, safety, contraindications, adverse effects, comorbidity management, drug interactions, insurance coverage and cost, and patient preferences.

Summary: With the global prevalence of obesity increasing dramatically, it has become a serious public health threat associated with comorbid conditions and psychological disorders. While lifestyle interventions and dietary adjustments may help with weight loss, maintaining these changes long-term can be challenging. Spices like turmeric, ginger, and pepper have shown promise in obesity management, with curcumin in particular gaining interest for its health benefits. Studies have shown potential favorable effects of curcumin supplementation on anthropometric indices, warranting further investigation for overweight or obese adults.

Summary: This review examines the effectiveness of eHealth weight loss interventions for adults with low income and the strategies used to tailor them. The results suggest that eHealth interventions can lead to modest weight reductions, but the evidence is limited. Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of eHealth interventions in this population.

Summary: Older adults with overweight/obesity are at increased risk of COVID-19, with higher baseline body weight, BMI, waist circumference, and waist-to-height ratio associated with higher risk. Every unit increase in body weight and BMI during follow-up was also linked to increased COVID-19 risk. In this group, significant weight loss may help protect against COVID-19.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether a temporal change in body mass index (BMI) was associated with clinical outcomes independent of baseline BMI in adults with congenital heart disease (CHD). The results showed that weight gain and weight loss were associated with worsening of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk and an increase in cardiovascular events. These findings support lifestyle interventions aimed at weight maintenance in patients with normal weight and weight loss in overweight or obese patients.

Summary: The study examined the relationship between risk experience and risk perceptions in relation to the target (risk to the self vs. others) and for two different types of risk: acute risks (i.e., terrorist attacks) and cumulative health risks (i.e., alcohol consumption, tobacco consumption, and unhealthy eating) in Israel and Germany. The findings suggest that an increase in risk perception with more risk experience can be explained by the amount of available information about people's personal as well as other people's risk status. This relationship depends on the target of the risk and the type of risk experience.

Summary: This study aims to explore the protective role of maternal-infant skin-to-skin contact on posttraumatic stress symptoms following childbirth, particularly for women who had operative births. The results indicate that skin-to-skin contact can reduce feelings of guilt and fear during birth, thus decreasing the occurrence of posttraumatic stress symptoms after childbirth.

Summary: The study evaluated the short and long-term effects of spinal cord stimulation on chronic pain outcomes, finding significant improvements in the short term but a gradual decline in the long term, suggesting that SCS may not be effective for the majority of chronic pain patients. Despite initial improvements, by the end of the seven-month follow-up, outcomes in the treatment group were similar to those of the control group, indicating that SCS may not be cost-effective for chronic pain patients.

Summary: This study investigates the experiences of residents in 15 countries during the COVID-19 pandemic and identifies four overarching themes: the presence and absence of others; rediscovering oneself; the meaning of daily life; rethinking societal and environmental values. Women were more likely to focus on the disruptions in interpersonal contacts, while men were less likely to do so. This research highlights the different perspectives and coping strategies people have towards the pandemic.
