Summary: The utilization of nanoparticles in agriculture requires a positive and environmentally friendly response, as well as a better understanding of their impact on plant cultures. This study investigated the effects of biosynthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZNPs) on the multiplication stage of Agave salmiana var. Ayoteco shoots. The introduction of ZNPs resulted in organogenesis and optimal shoot production in Agave seedlings. Depending on the treatment, the combination of nanoparticles and growth regulators caused modifications in shoot and seedling structures, particularly in stomata, without ZnO accumulation. The antioxidant activity of the shoots and seedlings varied depending on the stressors they were exposed to, including growth regulators and nanoparticles.

Summary: The study demonstrated that different olive cultivars have specific optimal growth media and factors, leading to improved micropropagation rates. The importance of in vitro growth parameters, such as media, zeatin, mannitol, and light intensity, were highlighted for enhancing micropropagation indices. Genetic stability analysis showed cultivar-dependent true-to-type characteristics in micropropagated olives.

Summary: The seasonal and annual energy efficiency of mainstream Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor (AnMBR) was evaluated in a pilot plant and a scaled-up plant in temperate climates. The results showed that AnMBR in temperate climates is electricity saving and energy positive, but the energy efficiency decreases with temperature drop. Recovering the potential energy from sludge should be a focus for future improvement.

Summary: Polyphenol extracts from red raspberry whole fruit or pulp, but not seed, can attenuate high-fat diet induced obesity in mice. These polyphenols have significant effects on the microbiota, decreasing specific taxa abundance and increasing beneficial Roseburia. Changes in the microbiome are closely correlated with improvements in host metabolic markers.

Summary: This study focuses on the effect of seaweed extract and different in vitro culture conditions on the growth and key metabolite content of Withania somnifera. The results showed that treatment with seaweed extract significantly increased the biomass and accumulation of specific compounds in Withania somnifera. Bioreactor cultures demonstrated the highest growth index and biomass, resulting in the highest accumulation of key metabolites. GC-MS analysis further confirmed the distinct differences between control and seaweed-treated samples. These findings provide a clear protocol for scaling up withanolide production from in vitro shoot cultures of Withania somnifera.

Summary: Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is a neurodegenerative disease that can lead to visual field constriction and blindness. The pathogenesis of POAG is complex, mainly explained through mechanical and vascular theories. While trabecular meshwork (TM) cells are less sensitive to pressure elevation, oxidative stress (OS) damage is exacerbated by an increase in pressure, suggesting the pivotal role of TM in the glaucoma cascade.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the regenerative potential of Quercus robur trees of different ages (up to 800 years) during micropropagation and determine the influence of in vitro conditions on regeneration responses. The results showed that the efficiency of in vitro shoot multiplication depended on the genotype and that the culture system and nutrient composition had a significant effect on shoot growth.

Summary: High levels of residual palladium can have serious negative health effects. A novel fluorescent probe has been designed for the rapid detection of palladium and carbon monoxide (CO). The probe can selectively detect Pd and CO with naked eyes and distinguish different species of Pd. The method has practical applications in drug residue and soil analysis, as well as bioimaging of Pd and CO concentration changes in cells.

Summary: This study found that there were differences in the impact of high pressure and HTST processing on phenolic compounds in red raspberries, with HTST processing promoting the release of free phenolic acids and HHP processing maximizing flavonol glycosides. Additionally, high temperature short time sterilization processing may also enhance juice authenticity.

Summary: Electrocatalysis is crucial for the development of the hydrogen economy, and this study introduces a fast micro-nano liquid layer induced construction (MLC) strategy for synthesizing nanostructured electrocatalysts. The research shows that modulation of binary cations can improve charge accumulation around Fe sites, leading to balanced proton adsorption for HER and lower energy barrier for OER. This strategy not only enables scaled-up synthesis of nanostructured electrocatalysts, but also provides a platform for exploring more functional nanostructured compounds.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of red, blue, white, and red plus blue and red, blue, and green LEDs on the in vitro regeneration of Gerbera jamesonii cv. 'Shy Pink'. The results showed that red plus blue LEDs had the greatest impact on shoot regeneration, growth, and root regeneration. Red and blue LEDs affected different parts of the plant, with blue LEDs promoting higher photosynthetic pigment content. White LEDs had a strong effect on chlorophyll fluorescence.

Summary: Plant tissue culture techniques are commonly used for commercial micropropagation, but may lead to genetic and epigenetic variations, including changes in DNA methylation pattern. These variations can impact plant phenotypes, and molecular techniques can be employed to detect DNA methylation. Understanding the molecular basis of DNA methylation can help in designing strategies to maintain clonal fidelity of regenerants in micropropagation systems.
