Summary: REG1a is significantly increased in CRC tissues and serum, and positively associated with lymph node metastasis, advanced tumor stage, and unfavorable prognosis in CRC patients. REG1a regulates glycolysis via the ss-catenin/MYC axis, promoting CRC proliferation and metastasis. These findings suggest that REG1a could serve as a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target for CRC.

Summary: BAF53A is upregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC) and promotes CRC cell proliferation, colony formation, and tumorigenesis. Furthermore, BAF53A also participates in the development of CRC by regulating the DUSP5-ERK1/2 pathway.

Summary: SATB2 loss is able to identify especially aggressive CRCs in high-risk subgroups. While SATB2 is the prognostically superior immunohistochemical parameter compared to CDX2 in univariate analyses, it appears to be the less sensitive marker for colorectal differentiation as it is lost more frequently.

Summary: This study identified four ferroptosis-associated subtypes in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) based on the expression profiles of ferroptosis-related genes. These subtypes showed significant differences in prognosis, immune microenvironment, drug sensitivity, and gene mutations. The results suggest that the ferroptosis-associated subtypes can serve as an independent biomarker for evaluating oncological outcomes in CRC patients.

Summary: A genetic signature for ferroptosis in CRC patients identified in this study can predict prognosis and evaluate immunotherapeutic response. Patients in the high-risk group have poorer prognosis, and the signature may serve as an independent predictor in CRC. Additionally, immunotherapeutic responses can be more effectively differentiated based on this signature, with candidate compounds identified for differentiating CRC subtypes.

Summary: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is an effective treatment option for low-grade colorectal cancer patients. However, approximately 20% to 30% of patients do not respond well to this treatment, highlighting the need for new biomarkers to predict prognosis. In this study, SAE1 was identified as an independent prognostic biomarker and its knockdown inhibited tumor cell proliferation and increased radiosensitivity, suggesting it as a potential therapeutic target in CRC treatment.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a prevalent cancer worldwide, with about 2 million new cases annually. Machine learning algorithms have been increasingly used in cancer studies, providing important information and predictions based on data. This study used patient data from São Paulo, Brazil and five different classification algorithms to predict survival in colorectal cancer patients, achieving an accuracy of approximately 77% with an AUC of 0.86, with clinical staging being the most important feature.

Summary: This observational study compared the efficacy of trifluridine/tipiracil (TAS-102) and regorafenib (REG) in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The results showed that TAS-102 had better oncologic outcomes in terms of progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), overall response rate (ORR), and disease control rate (DCR) compared to REG. Combination therapy was associated with longer survival in both TAS-102 and REG groups. Further prospective trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The clinicopathological features and oncological outcomes in younger patients with CRC are controversial. This study aimed to analyze these features and outcomes. The results showed that younger patients had more advanced disease, more cases beyond the transverse colon, and received adjuvant chemotherapy more frequently. However, their relapse-free survival and overall survival were similar to older patients. Further studies are needed to establish optimal treatment strategies for younger patients.

Summary: This study analyzed the architectural features of five olive cultivars in a young super-high-density olive orchard in Sicily, Italy. The measurements of the whole tree, canopy, and branches were conducted, and the branching frequency, branching efficiency, and relative vigour indexes were calculated. The study also provided information on the olive yield for three consecutive years. The results showed that Giulia (R) and Oliana (R) were similar to Arbequina and Arbosana in terms of canopy shape and branch ramification. FS-17 (R) had a larger canopy volume and higher vigour, indicating potential vulnerability to mechanical harvest damage. The study contributes valuable information for selecting suitable olive cultivars for high-density plantations.

Summary: The study compared the survival outcomes of primary mixed adeno-neuroendocrine carcinoma (MANEC) and primary signet-ring cell cancer (SRCC) in colorectal cancer and evaluated the prognosis by developing a nomogram. The study found that MANEC patients had significantly better survival than SRCC patients, highlighting the importance of early screening.
