Summary: The prevalence of Echinococcus granulosus infection among owned dogs in Lagos State, Nigeria is 5.5%, with significant factors associated with infection being the location of the veterinary clinics or hospital and the purpose for keeping the dogs. Dogs living in suburban areas and kept for security purposes or guarding have a higher probability of infection. Proper and regular treatment with praziquantel is highly recommended to reduce the risk of Echinococcus granulosus transmission to humans.

Summary: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a life-threatening disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus. Recent studies have shown that annexins, as excretory/secretory products, play a role in immune regulation in the pathogenesis of CE. This study identified four annexin proteins (EgANXB2, EgANXB18, EgANXB20, and EgANXB23) and demonstrated their roles in regulating immune cell function.

Summary: The study estimated the prevalence of Echinococcus granulosus among stray dogs in Kurdistan-Iraq and its impact on environmental contamination. Microscopic examination and Copro-PCR method were used. The results showed a high prevalence of E. granulosus among stray dogs in Sulaimani Governorate. A new method using the sediment of dog faeces for DNA extraction was found to have higher sensitivity than the routine method. Molecular diagnosis was more sensitive than microscopic examination for detecting E. granulosus eggs.

Summary: This study provides the first systematic investigation of the genetic diversity of Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Summary: The presence of parasite eggs, especially E. granulosus s.l., in soil, fecal, and water samples in the urban and semi-urban areas of Ibadan, Nigeria, was assessed. The study found a high contamination rate of taeniid eggs in these samples, highlighting the need for effective control measures. Factors such as proximity to slaughterhouses, urbanization level, and local government area did not appear to significantly influence E. granulosus s.l. egg dispersion patterns.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Echinococcus granulosus infection and antigen B (AgB) can alleviate symptoms and tissue damage in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) induced by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS). This treatment may improve IBD conditions by inducing an increase in M2-predominant cells and a decrease in type 1 macrophages in the intestinal lamina propria. Additionally, AgB can alter the composition of the gut microbiota and reverse nitric oxide expression.

This study conducted two sampling events at La Paisana ranch in Argentina, finding high levels of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria in the cattle stockyards, with counts reaching up to 2970 CFU/m³, significantly higher than 111 CFU/m³ at a distance of 100 meters.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron lineages during the third and fourth waves of COVID-19 in Argentina. The third wave was associated with lineage BA.1 and characterized by a high number of cases, rapid displacement of Delta, and low lineage diversity and clustering. In contrast, the fourth wave was longer but had a lower number of cases and was initially caused by BA.2 and later by BA.4/BA.5. Differential dynamics between the waves may be attributed to waning immunity, population gatherings, and boosted population with prior immunity or vaccination.

Summary: The emergence and local genomic diversity of the SARS-CoV-2 Lambda variant in Argentina were described in this study. The Lambda variant was first detected in January 2021 and steadily increased until April 2021. Phylodynamic analysis revealed multiple introductions and local transmission of the Lambda variant in Argentina. Genetic analyses of genome sequences identified mutational patterns and rare mutations in an immunocompromised patient. Genomic surveillance is crucial in monitoring the introduction, geographical distribution, and emergence of mutations in variants of concern.
