Summary: The feasibility of transferring the APLTh for thumb opposition was assessed in this study. Eleven cadaver upper limbs were dissected, and it was found that the APL was present in all cases, but its insertion on the thenar aponeurosis was absent in 18% of the cases. When the APLTh was present and could be used for opponensplasty, the mean gain in palmar abduction was 16 degrees, and the mean loss in radial abduction was 21 degrees.

Summary: Spontaneous tendon ruptures are rare, with causes including fractures, steroid use, and systemic diseases. Treatment often requires tendon transfer instead of primary repair.

Summary: This case report highlights a spontaneous rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon in a young lacrosse player without known predisposing factors. Surgical tendon transfer was performed with successful outcome, suggesting that repetitive stick checking during play may have contributed to the tendon injury.

Summary: Extensor pollicis longus tendon rupture is a reported complication that may occur after nondisplaced distal radius fractures, possibly due to mechanical irritation or compromised blood supply. We present a case of extensor pollicis longus rupture after a healed nondisplaced scaphoid fracture, suggesting a similar attritional process. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no previous reports of extensor pollicis longus rupture following this type of injury.

Summary: This study presents a case of a semi-professional bodybuilder who experienced a spontaneous rupture of the extensor pollicis longus in the left wrist following minor trauma. The diagnosis was confirmed through ultrasound, and an MRI revealed an uncommon and aggressive anatomical variant of Lister's tubercle. The patient underwent a transfer surgery using the extensor indicis propius technique to restore thumb hyperextension and retropulsion. The frequent occurrence of extensor pollicis longus rupture in patients engaged in repetitive wrist movements may be attributed to aggressive anatomical forms of Lister's tubercle.

Summary: The purpose of this investigation was to study and describe anatomical variations of the abductor pollicis longus (APL) muscle in a clinical context. The study found that the APL muscle often exhibits variations in the number of tendons and their insertion sites, with the most common pattern being a main tendon inserted on the base of the first metacarpal and an accessory tendon inserted into the abductor pollicis brevis muscle. These findings have important implications for radiological and surgical procedures in the hand and wrist region.

Summary: This case report presents a patient with acute bilateral extensor pollicis longus tendon ruptures after bilateral displaced distal radius fractures. The patient underwent bilateral open reduction and volar plate fixation for the fractures and bilateral extensor indicis proprius tendon transfer for the tendon ruptures. Satisfactory results were achieved without any reported complications. However, this case highlights the possibility of extensor pollicis longus tendon rupture occurring at the time of fracture and emphasizes the importance of clinician awareness.

Summary: This report presents a case of wrist-tendon rupture caused by inadvertent intratendinous corticosteroid injection. A 67-year-old woman experienced difficulty in extending her left-thumb interphalangeal joint after a palpation-guided local corticosteroid injection. Diagnostic tests confirmed the diagnosis of complete extensor pollicis longus (EPL) rupture, showing hyperechoic tissues at the site of EPL tendon and an atrophic EPL muscle stump.

Summary: This study used MRI to demonstrate the interconnections between flexor hallucis longus (FHL) and flexor digitorum longus (FDL) around the Master knot of Henry (MKH). The majority of the interconnections observed were type 1 (81%), with type 5 being the second most common (10%), followed by types 2 and 4 (4% each). The FHL tendon slips contributed to the second toe, and in 51% of cases, also the second and third toes. The layering organization was predominantly two-layered (59%), followed by three-layered (35%) and single-layered (6%). The distance between branching site and bony landmarks was longer in FDL to FHL cases, and the cross-sectional area (CSA) of FHL to FDL tendon slips was larger than FDL to FHL.

Summary: This study presents a rare case of intratendinous ganglion cyst in the extensor pollicis longus tendon. The patient underwent surgical excision and had a successful recovery with no residual pain or cyst recurrence. Prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention are crucial due to the potential weakening of affected tendons by intratendinous ganglion cysts.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a decellularization protocol for producing a completely acellular full-thickness abdominal wall scaffold. The results showed that the protocol successfully removed all cells from the abdominal wall samples and the resulting decellularized scaffolds had good biochemical and mechanical properties. This study provides a useful method for producing acellular abdominal wall scaffolds from larger animal models or human cadaveric donors.
