Summary: The study evaluated the clinical effect and safety of CBCT-guided empirical embolization for acute LGIB patients with positive CTA but negative DSA. Results showed that empirical CBCT-guided embolization significantly reduced rebleeding rates in patients with negative DSA, improving clinical success.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of single-phase, biphasic, and triphasic CTA in detecting active LGIB. The results showed that adding non-contrast and delayed phases to arterial phase CTA increased specificity and inter-reader agreement without affecting sensitivity and reading time.

Summary: In this study, polymer-coated BiOCl nanosheets were introduced for highly efficient CT imaging of the gastrointestinal tract. The developed contrast showed 2.55-fold better CT enhancement compared to conventional contrast, with negligible in vivo toxicity. The coating of nanoparticles with differently charged polymers enabled regioselective CT imaging of the GI tract, potentially advancing clinical diagnosis.

Summary: Melanoma is a highly aggressive form of skin cancer that can spread to any organ, including the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). CT imaging is the standard method for evaluating and monitoring melanoma patients, but interpreting CT studies in these patients can be challenging. Early diagnosis of GIT metastases is critical to prevent emergency hospitalization.

Summary: Magnetic nanorobots with radiopaque features and microCT technology enable precise navigation and in vivo imaging in hard-to-reach areas of the human body. The nanorobots can be controlled by rotating magnetic fields and their internal structures can be revealed through X-ray contrast. In vivo experiments demonstrate the localization capability of the nanorobots in the gastrointestinal tract.

Summary: In this study, a series of silica-coated bismuth sulfide core-shell nanomaterials were synthesized and compared with traditional barium sulfate contrast agents. The results showed that these nanomaterials exhibited superior contrast performance and elimination efficacy in gastrointestinal CT imaging, with minimal impact on the gut microbiota in mice.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic yield and impact of computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen and pelvis in adult patients with gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) presenting to the Emergency Department (ED). The results showed that multiphase CT examinations are more likely to detect active bleeding if GIB is listed as an indication. Patients with positive CT findings are more likely to be admitted or observed. Therefore, accurate indications are crucial for optimizing examination performance.

Summary: This study examined biopsy samples of normal gastrointestinal mucosa and ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, and found a decrease in the concentration of 5-HT+ cells in UC patients and an increase in the expression of melatonin-secreting cells in severe cases of the disease.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the proper modified thresholds for detecting and weighting CAC scores at 100 kV through histogram matching compared with the standard reference of 120 kV. The results showed that using modified thresholds through histogram matching can accurately score CAC while reducing radiation exposure.

Summary: This prospective study evaluated the diagnostic performance of perfusion CT in differentiating gastrointestinal tuberculosis (GITB) and Crohn's disease (CD). The study found significant differences in blood flow, permeability, and mean transit time among these two diseases, which can be used for differentiation and diagnosis. Therefore, perfusion CT is a novel imaging technique that can improve the diagnostic performance of differentiating tuberculosis and CD.

Summary: This study found that the quantity of muscle mass in the lower extremities is associated with the severity of vascular stenosis in PAD patients. The muscle mass in the legs of PAD patients is lower and changes earlier than in the abdomen. Age, gender, BMI, and PAD are factors associated with low muscle mass.

Summary: Anastomotic leaks after gastrointestinal surgery can have severe consequences, but endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) is recognized as an effective and safe treatment option. However, the technique may be challenging and may discourage endoscopists from using it. This review provides practical solutions and tips to facilitate the use of EVT for better patient outcomes.

Summary: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are heterogeneous tumors derived from the diffuse endocrine system, commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GI-NENs) are relatively rare, but due to their ability to produce different substances, they exhibit various clinical manifestations.

Summary: This article presents recent data on the management of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) and examines the trends over a 50-year period. The study found that PLA patients are older and there is a less pronounced male predominance. The most common underlying cause of PLA is the biliary tract, and the most commonly identified pathogens are Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Streptococcus species. Percutaneous drainage is the most common primary treatment modality. The study also questions the utility of abdominal ultrasound as the initial diagnostic imaging for suspected PLA, suggesting that abdominal computed tomography (CT) is more effective.
