Summary: This study found that the severity of symptoms in functional dyspepsia and idiopathic gastroparesis is not correlated to gastric emptying rate. Patients with delayed gastric emptying had higher overall meal-related symptom severity, particularly in terms of nausea.

Summary: This article summarizes the potential mechanisms of acupuncture in the treatment of functional dyspepsia and provides guidance for future laboratory and clinical studies. Acupuncture has been proven to be a promising treatment for alleviating symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia, and its mechanisms include controlling intestinal inflammation and acid secretion through autonomic reflex pathways, regulating the brain-gut axis through the intestinal microbiota, and potentially improving FD symptoms.

Summary: This review discusses the issue of increased intestinal permeability in patients with functional dyspepsia, as well as the factors and techniques associated with it. Although there is currently a lack of definitive clinical evidence, studying these changes is crucial for improving the management of functional dyspepsia.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Yokukansan (YKS), a traditional Japanese herbal medicine, on gastric hypersensitivity, gastric motility, and duodenal micro-inflammation in a maternal separation (MS) stress-induced functional dyspepsia (FD) model. The results show that YKS treatment improves gastric hypersensitivity by alleviating eosinophil-associated micro-inflammation in the gastroduodenal tract.

Summary: This study found that postprandial gastric accommodation is significantly associated with the rate of gastric emptying, with higher gastric volumes leading to prolongation of emptying. The study also introduced novel methods to measure proximal gastric accommodation and correct for radioisotope upscatter.

Summary: Functional dyspepsia is a common and prevalent disorder of the brain-gut interaction, affecting quality of life. Traditional pharmacological agents have limited efficacy, leading patients to seek other medical and non-medical solutions. Recent research highlights the importance of psychological therapies and nutritional recommendations, but there is a correlation between functional dyspepsia and food intolerances, leading to the adoption of exclusion diets that may negatively impact weight, eating behavior, and nutrition.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between symptoms of functional dyspepsia (FD) and results of gastric emptying (GE) breath test in children. The results showed that patients with delayed GE had similar overall symptom severity compared to patients with normal GE rates, but nausea symptom was significantly increased in the group with delayed GE. Therefore, a low threshold should be withheld to perform a GE breath test in children with nausea as a presenting symptom of FD.

Summary: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common disorder with no definitive, universal treatment. Probiotics have been suggested as a potential therapeutic option for FD due to their effects on gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). However, the evidence for the efficacy of probiotics in FD remains unclear. This review aims to summarize the available evidence for the use of probiotics in FD.

Summary: Our study used a multi-modal MRI approach to investigate the relationship between gastric motility and brain connectivity in patients with functional dyspepsia. We found that lower peristaltic propagation velocity was associated with altered brainstem-cortical functional connectivity in FD patients.

Summary: The vagus nerve is crucial in the bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain, and its dysfunction may contribute to functional dyspepsia. Understanding the alteration in vagal signaling and its pathophysiological roles may provide insights for new therapeutic treatments of this disorder.
