Mixed-ligand Cu(II), Co(II) complexes of formulae [Co(NSALT)(A.A)(H2O)](1), [Co(OHAPT)(A.A)H2O](2), and [Cu(ESALT)(ABPH)H2O] (3) were obtained by refluxing methanol solutions of copper, cobalt chlorides with the appropriate ligands. The complexes were characterized by the ESI-MASS, vibrational spectroscopy (Fourier transform-IR), H-1-NMR spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, TGA, ESR, SEM and powder XRD. The preliminary DNA-binding activity of the complexes was studied by recording electronic absorption spectra of the complexes in presence of CT-DNA. The binding constants of three complexes towards calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) [1.2 x 10(4) M-1 for 1, 2.5 x 10(4) M-1 for 2, and 3.0 x 10(4) M-1 for 3] indicate strong interaction of 3. Changes in the fluorescence of ethidium bromide in the presence of DNA suggest intercalation into or electrostatic interactions with CT DNA. The quenching constants, K-SV towards-DNA calculated through fluorescence spectra are 2.9 x 10(4) M(-1)for 1, 1.8 x 10(4) M-1 for 2, and 3.2 x 10(4) M-1 for 3. Docking studies on DNA complexes confirm the binding of 1 and 2 in the major groove of CT-DNA (CTP-1 Endonuclease). Moreover, the antibacterial effect of 1-3 against the five bacterial species was evaluated. The metal complexes have cleavage affinity towards PBR322 plasmid. Furthermore, the antioxidant activities of the complexes were determined by DPPH scavenging activity method.

Summary: The ligand NFMHMONC and its transition metal (II) complexes were synthesized and characterized. The metal complexes showed high DNA binding and hydrolytic cleavage activity, as well as remarkable antioxidant activity. In vitro cytotoxicity studies revealed lower cell viability in HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines with certain metal complexes compared to NFMHMONC.

Summary: This study focused on the design of alternative metal-based anticancer drugs with metal ions other than platinum, specifically examining the potential of ternary Cu(II) complexes. The complexes showed remarkable intercalation binding properties with DNA, indicating their potential as efficient anticancer drugs. Various characterization techniques were used to evaluate the synthesized complexes, and their strong biological activity and anticancer potential were confirmed through experiments. These findings provide important insights for further applications.

Papisetti Venkatesham, Perugu Shyam, Pooja, Raju Chedupaka, Rajeswar Rao Vedula

Summary: A series of alkyl/aralkyl/phenacyl thiotriazolyl isoindoline-1,3-diones were synthesized either via a one-pot four-component synthesis or a two-step process. The one-pot synthesis showed higher yields. The synthesized compounds were characterized by spectral studies and screened for anticancer activity, with compounds 5m, 5p, and 5r showing significant cytotoxicity against Hela cancer cell lines. Docking analysis and DFT calculations were also performed.

Summary: Our study demonstrates the antibacterial activity of gold nanoparticles (AuNps) synthesized through the green synthesis method using Vitex negundo plant leaves. The use of biologically active compounds from the plant as reducing agents successfully produces spherical AuNps with a size range of 70-90 nm. These nanoparticles show good antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi and M. luteus bacteria.

An insight into mimic of photo-Fenton degradation of ciprofloxacin and tetracycline

Ankush Kularkar, Sachin D. Chaudhari, Garima Rohilla, Mudavath Ravi, P. Muralidhar Reddy, Penumaka Nagababu

Summary: A stable Zn-BTC MOF photocatalyst, GO@ZnMC, was successfully prepared using an in-situ solvothermal method with varying concentrations of graphene oxide. Characterization techniques such as X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to analyze the composition, structure, and optical properties of the catalyst. The GO@ZnMC composite showed higher degradation efficiency for antibiotics CIP and TC compared to pristine GO, Zn-MOF, and other composites, especially when using calcium peroxide as the co-catalyst. The increased photocatalytic activity was attributed to the formation of a heterojunction that suppresses electron-hole pair recombination. The catalyst remained stable and reusable for four catalytic cycles.
