Summary: PHY34 is a synthetic small molecule with potent anticancer activity against ovarian cancer cells. It induces apoptosis in these cells by inhibiting late-stage autophagy. CAS protein is identified as a likely target of PHY34, and its elevated expression in HGSOC is associated with worse clinical outcomes. Additionally, PHY34 interacts with ATP6V0A2 subunit and induces cell death.

Summary: Doxorubicin, an anthracycline derivative anti-cancer drug, shows anti-cancer activity but can cause cardiotoxicity, which may be prevented by administering cardioprotectants. Hsp27 has shown potential as a cardioprotectant, but further research, particularly in primary cell lines and animal models, is needed to confirm its efficacy.

Summary: Sine Oculis Homeobox 1 (SIX1) is a vital member of the homeobox transcription factor family, playing crucial roles in organismal development and differentiation. Its aberrant expression has been linked to hearing impairment, renal anomalies, and tumorigenesis, highlighting its importance in various pathological conditions. As a transcription factor, SIX1 primarily regulates cellular functions by controlling the expression of different proteins.

Summary: Prion protein has two isoforms, PrP(C) and PrPSc. PrPSc is the pathological aggregated form that plays a role in neurodegenerative diseases, while PrP(C) is a membrane-anchored protein expressed in neurons and peripheral organs. Studies have revealed the involvement of PrP(C) in various aspects of cancer biology.

Summary: This review article discusses the diverse therapeutic properties of phloretin, including its anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic activities. The focus is on its anticancer potential, specifically its antiproliferative, proapoptotic, antimetastatic, and antiangiogenic activities in preclinical cancer models. The article also analyzes the effects of phloretin on cellular signaling pathways and proteins, enzymes, and its co-effects with conventional anticancer drugs.

Summary: Combining antiangiogenic and chemotherapeutic drugs within multimodal nanocarriers has shown promising clinical benefits in inhibiting tumor growth and progression. The study reports the combinatorial efficacy of heparin, selenium NPs, and doxorubicin in inhibiting cancer cell viability and inducing apoptosis. The nanocarriers demonstrated excellent water dispersity and strong anticancer potential in in vitro assays, while in vivo imaging highlighted their tumor targeting ability. Overall, these results qualify the nanocarriers as a potential clinical therapeutic candidate.

Summary: This study demonstrated that avian reovirus infection induces cell apoptosis through the unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway, with ATF6 playing a critical role upstream of caspase in this process. Inhibition of UPR or knockdown of ATF6 attenuated the apoptosis induction caused by ARV infection.

Summary: The success of cancer treatment has improved the survival rate, but there are adverse consequences in female reproductive system due to chemotherapy. Ovarian tissue is sensitive to chemotherapeutic drugs-induced toxicity. Commonly used drugs like doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, cisplatin and paclitaxel can cause ovarian damage and decline fertility potential in females. Understanding the different toxicity mechanisms will be helpful for developing therapeutic interventions for preserving declining female fertility among cancer survivors.
