Summary: This paper explores a novel approach to improving human decision-making through sensory substitution. The results from a within-subject design study show that translating numerical information into sensory experiences leads to higher decision accuracy. The benefits of sensory substitution are attributed to a shift from explicit rule abstraction to intuitive configural learning.

Summary: Standards of evidence are rules or norms regarding the type or amount of evidence needed to prove or support a conclusion. They are important in Institutional Review Board (IRB) decision-making, which should rely on empirical evidence but also consider other sources like intuition and emotion due to the ethical component of IRB decisions, which is beyond science.

Summary: This integrative review aims to make sense of apparently contradictory findings in ethical decision-making research by identifying moderating influences. By integrating moderators from different disciplines and eras, the authors develop a taxonomy to help researchers identify similar constructs studied under different names. The findings concerning these influences are organized into four emergent moderator categories (psychological, situational, social, and physiological), providing insights into both intuitive and deliberative ethical decision-making.

Summary: The neurodiversity movement has brought about a new era for autism research, but there is still a disconnect between the neurodiversity paradigm and autism clinics. This paper aims to address this gap by proposing phenomenology as a foundation for developing neurodiversity-affirming clinical interventions for autism. The authors highlight the mental health crisis faced by autistic individuals and argue that focusing solely on reducing autistic symptoms may not be effective. They emphasize the importance of developing and implementing neurodiversity-affirming clinical interventions, while also acknowledging the challenges therapists and researchers face in incorporating neurodiversity into their work.

Summary: The study found an increase in requests for puberty suppression from nonbinary youth, but clinicians have differing opinions on long-term suppression. Clinicians are concerned about risks, resource allocation, and medicalization, with some requiring young people to choose masculinizing or feminizing puberty.

Summary: Return-to-sport decisions are crucial in sports medicine, involving evaluation of multiple factors and being influenced by contextual factors. This narrative review evaluates clinicians' decision-making in return-to-sport from a decision analysis perspective and proposes a framework for improving the quality of these decisions.

Summary: This paper develops a conceptual framework on how the representativeness heuristic operates in decision-making, focusing on the search rule, stopping rule, and decision rule. It explores how individual cognitive and behavioral factors impact the functioning of this heuristic, providing a nuanced perspective on decision-making processes.

Summary: The study found that in inpatient mental health care, service users, caregivers and clinicians generally acknowledge the important role of caregivers in monitoring the progress of mental illness. While caregivers are often described as experts, receiving or providing information, and supporting service users during consultations, they may also seek support for themselves or exhibit unhelpful behaviors at times. The potential benefits of caregiver involvement are recognized, despite the low implementation of caregiver involvement in routine care.

Summary: Decision making is crucial in the front end of projects for maximizing project performance. While analytical approaches are often favored, there is evidence of project managers using intuitive decision-making processes. This study interviewed project managers in the oil and gas industry to examine the cognitive processes and factors influencing decision making in the front end of complex projects. The findings highlight the importance of training project managers to recognize and effectively use intuitive decision making while being aware of its strengths, weaknesses, and influencing factors.

Summary: Emotions play a crucial role in promoting ethical decision making within organizations. Norms that discourage the expression of strong emotions at work inhibit individuals' ability to generate moral intuitions and reason about ethical issues they encounter. This lack of emotional awareness in organizational decision processes increases the prevalence of amoral decision making.

Summary: This systematic review examines the characteristics and effects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) interventions delivered by non-therapists. Nineteen different interventions were identified and delivered by healthcare workers, researchers, women/mothers, municipal workers, and teachers. The findings suggest that ACT interventions can effectively address psychological distress and increase health behaviors.

Summary: Paranoia is higher in minority group individuals, but it is unrelated to self/other beliefs and social rank in those groups. Therefore, it is important to consider healthy cultural mistrust when studying paranoia in minority groups to better understand the experiences of marginalized individuals.

Summary: The study found that pandemic-specific paranoid ideation has different effects on the adherence to COVID-19 preventative behaviors. Higher levels of interpersonal mistrust are associated with higher adherence to all behaviors, higher levels of conspiratorial thinking are associated with lower adherence to all behaviors, and higher levels of persecutory threat are associated with higher vaccine willingness but lower adherence to other preventative behaviors.

Summary: This study found that when parents reported high stress and burden in their parenting role, adverse life events were significantly associated with adolescent paranoid beliefs. However, at low and moderate levels of parental stress, adverse life events were unrelated to paranoid beliefs. Bullying was strongly associated with paranoia, and the adolescent's perception of support within their family had no moderating effects.
