The leaf essential oil of Myrcia splendens Standl. (Myrtaceae), from Costa Rica, was isolated by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS. A total of 26 compounds were identified in the leaf oil accounting for 96.9% of the total composition. The most abundant components of the leaf oil of M. splendens were germacrene D (35.9%), valerianol (16.3%) trans-2-hexenal (9.5%), epi-alpha-cadinol (6.8%), and delta-cadinene (5.8%).
