Summary: This study investigated the batch experiment with different aquifer materials using persulfate as a chemical oxidant to oxidize organic contaminants. The results showed that BTEX could be preferentially removed with the addition of persulfate, while ethanol could compete with sulfate radical and potentially inhibit the biodegradation of BTEX.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have shown that long-term exposure to toxic volatile organic compounds, known as BTEX, is associated with preterm births. This study used a global chemical transport model and an epidemiological model to quantify the country-specific preterm birth rate attributable to long-term BTEX exposure in 2015. The study found that there were 2.01 million preterm births globally due to BTEX exposure, with the largest contributions from India.

Summary: The increasing demand for plastics has led to accumulation of plastic waste and environmental pollution. Catalytic pyrolysis is an effective method for treating plastic waste and recovering high-value oil products. In this study, Ga-modified HZSM-5 catalyst was used for pyrolysis of waste polyethylene (PE) to produce BTEX-enriched oil. The effects of different parameters on product selectivity and coke yield were investigated. NTP regeneration of the catalyst showed similar performance to thermal regeneration. The results suggest that NTP synergistic catalytic pyrolysis is a promising strategy for plastic waste management and upgrading oil product quality.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of combined environmental exposure to BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene) on behavior and neurochemistry in mice. The results showed that exposure to environmentally representative concentrations of BTEX can lead to subtle effects on locomotor activity.

Summary: Air samples were collected from 227 newly decorated rooms in southeastern China between November 2014 and July 2017 to determine the BTEX concentrations. The study found that the mean BTEX concentrations were above Chinese regulatory standards, and they correlated positively with temperature and humidity but negatively with air pressure, with the highest concentrations in summer. Conference rooms and residences had higher BTEX concentrations compared to classrooms and halls, with the highest concentrations during painting and carpentry. Most rooms exceeded the hazard quotient and cancer risk limits, with benzene and xylene being the main contributors.

Summary: This study examined the association between a group of aromatic air pollutants (BTEXs) and telomere length in a nonsmoking general population. The results showed that exposure to the BTEXs mixture was significantly inversely associated with telomere length within a low range.

Summary: A series of Y zeolites with different pore properties were prepared as a support for hydrocracking catalysts for the production of BTEX from tetralin. Characterization techniques were used to obtain the properties of the catalysts, and their performance in tetralin hydrocracking was evaluated. The results showed that the Si/Al ratio is a key property of zeolites and an increase in the V-micro/V-meso ratio facilitated the formation of BTEX products. It was also found that thermodynamics control the hydrogenation-cracking pathway and strong acidity affects the equilibrium temperature.

Summary: Non-thermal plasma-assisted catalytic pyrolysis is a promising technology for producing BTEX from mixed waste plastics. This study focused on preparing Ga-modified zeolites as catalysts. The results showed that Ga loading effectively increased the BTEX yields, with HZSM-5-Ga-N2 exhibiting the highest selectivity and yield.

Summary: The health risk and burden of disease caused by exposure to BTEX in the outdoor air in Tehran in 2019 were assessed. The concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene were measured, and the non-carcinogenic risk, carcinogenic risk, and disease burden were determined. The results showed that the corrective measures such as controlling road traffic and improving the quality of vehicles and gasoline could reduce the burden of disease from BTEX and other outdoor air pollutants.

Summary: In this study, boro-, nickel-, and zincosilicate delMWW and beta zeolite (*BEA) adsorbents were prepared and compared with their mother MWWs for BTX chemisorption. Among them, nickel silicate beta zeolite (Ni-BEA) exhibited the highest concentration of Lewis acid sites and a hydrophobic character because of the stable framework-bound Ni species. Its advantageous textural properties, large pore size, high surface area, and nano-sized crystals contributed to the highest chemisorption content and a strong chemisorption ability of BTX at high temperature under humid conditions.
