Summary: This study evaluated the co-metabolism characteristics of nonylphenol polyethoxylate (NPEO) in an activated sludge system. It was found that the biodegradation of NPEO was influenced by the major by-product nonylphenol diethoxylate (NP2EO). However, NPEO did not have an inhibitory effect on the microbial culture in terms of heterotrophic and autotrophic activities.

Summary: This study isolated specific NP-degrading bacteria from sewage sludge, including six bacterial strains not previously described as degraders. The results showed that Bacillus safensis CN12 had the best NP degradation ability in solution. However, CN12 was not able to degrade NP in sewage sludge, but the use of cyclodextrin as an availability enhancer allowed for the extraction and degradation of NP in solution.

Summary: In this study, a peanut shell-based biocharCoFe2O4 catalyst was synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The catalyst showed higher efficiency in degrading NPEO10 compared to biochar and CoFe2O4. The degradation of NPEO10 involved both radical and non-radical pathways, with •OH being the major contributor.

Summary: In this study, a combined treatment of electrooxidation and gamma irradiation was used to successfully degrade Nonylphenol ethoxylate 10, achieving a 100% degradation efficiency. The best conditions for treatment include 180 minutes of EO with a Boron-Doped Diamond electrode, and addition of H2O2 in the combined treatment.

Summary: This study investigates the key bacterial degraders in textile activated sludge microbiomes for controlling the risk of estrogenicity associated with nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPEO). It identifies Sphingbium and Pseudomonas as the key degraders that can cooperatively degrade NPEO with division of labor mechanisms.

Summary: The photocatalytic efficiency of titania thin-films on ITO synthesized in the presence of nonylphenol-surfactants containing different numbers of ethoxylate-units was investigated under solar-irradiation. Visible-light responsive Ti-nonylphenol-35-ethoxylates composites are found to be more efficient catalysts than UV-absorbable Ti-nonylphenol-b0-ethoxylates films. The dye degradation efficiency of the Ti-nonylphenol-ethoxylate films changes in the 58-74% range after 2 hours of irradiation in 0.02 mM MB solution, with complete decolorization achieved after 8 hours of irradiation on the TiNP-35 catalysts calcined at 350 degrees C.

Summary: Ionic alkoxy-based surfactants, specifically carboxylated nonylphenol ethoxylate surfactants, were studied in terms of their interfacial activity and salt tolerance. The results showed that the surfactant with more ethoxy units exhibited higher interfacial activity and salt tolerance, highlighting the importance of surfactant structure in influencing these properties.

Summary: Initial findings indicate that synthesized anionic-nonionic surfactants retained surfactant solubility and long-term stability in high-salinity water, but exhibited better foaming ability and higher apparent viscosity in porous media. However, the unsaturated bond in NP12EO-MA surfactant decreased foaming ability under high mineralization conditions.

Summary: Dual-chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were used for the simultaneous degradation of nonylphenol and electricity generation. Metagenomic sequencing revealed the dominant microbial community and gene function in the anodic biofilm. The metabolic pathways of nonylphenol were suggested to be divided into the oxidation of aromatic ring and the fission of alkyl chain.

Summary: The industrial intervention has had a significant impact on the environment, resulting in water pollution and accumulation of solid waste. In order to address these issues, advanced techniques, including the use of nanoparticles and organic techniques such as nano-chitosan, have been developed for wastewater treatment. These nanomaterials serve as efficient and low-cost adsorbents for the removal of contaminants.

Summary: The two-spotted spider mite is a highly polyphagous pest that is considered a serious pest worldwide. Due to issues with chemical pesticides, plant oils have been considered for mite control. Through the screening of commercial emulsifiers and stabilizers, a safe acaricide was developed using vegetable oils as the main component, which showed promising efficacy against the mites.

Summary: An integrated lab-scale wastewater treatment system was used to study the removal and fate of pharmaceuticals during wastewater treatment. The removal of major pollutants and target pharmaceuticals was not affected by the temperature of the anaerobic Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (AnMBBR). Biotransformation was the predominant mechanism for the removal of pharmaceuticals, while sorption played a minor role.

Summary: Sewage sludge management is challenging due to its environmental impact and regulatory requirements. Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a promising technology for producing biofuel and extracting phosphorus from sewage sludge. However, the toxic nature of the resulting process water (HTL-PW) raises concerns about integrating HTL into conventional wastewater treatment processes.
