Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of patients who underwent TCAR for carotid artery stenosis, showing that TCAR is a promising and safe approach with high technical success rates and low rates of periprocedural stroke and cranial nerve injury.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to assess the relationship between obesity and the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection. The results indicated that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m(2) or higher had an increased risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection. Furthermore, overweight, obesity, and severe obesity were all significantly associated with a higher risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis compared the complications of midline catheters and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), focusing on catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) and thrombosis. The results showed that midline catheters were associated with fewer CRBSIs but a higher risk of superficial venous thrombosis compared to PICCs. These findings provide guidance for future cost-benefit analyses and direct comparative trials to better understand the efficacy and risks of midline catheters versus PICCs.

Summary: This meta-analysis evaluates the differences between the postauricular and conventional transcervical approaches for submandibular gland excision. The results show that the postauricular approach is feasible, although it has a longer operative duration. However, it has a similar complication rate and yields better cosmetic outcomes compared to the conventional transcervical approach.

Summary: By conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis, it was found that protection from past SARS-CoV-2 infection is high and remains high even after 40 weeks. Protection against symptomatic disease is high for ancestral, alpha, beta, and delta variants, but lower for the omicron BA.1 variant. Protection against severe disease remains high for all variants. The findings have important implications for predicting disease burden, vaccine policy, and travel restrictions.

Summary: This study provides a global review of the most prevalent infectious diseases observed after earthquakes. The results show an increase in the prevalence of infectious diseases after earthquakes. Governments should take essential measures to be better prepared for such unpredictable catastrophes.

Summary: This study found through network meta-analysis that antiseptic agents containing 1% CHG-alcohol were more strongly associated with reduced risk for CRBSI compared with agents containing 0.5% CHG-alcohol or 10% PVI-aqueous.

Summary: PCD under imaging guidance is effective for the treatment of lung abscesses, with high treatment success rate and low complication rate. Malignancy-related abscesses and occurrence of major complications are significant predictors of treatment failure, while traversing normal lung parenchyma is the only significant risk factor for major complications.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the incidence of newly diagnosed diabetes in survivors of COVID-19. Meta-analysis of 8 studies revealed that COVID-19 was associated with a 66% higher risk of incident diabetes, and this risk was not influenced by age, sex, or study quality.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study found that Group B streptococcus colonization does not seem to increase the risk for neonatal infection among women undergoing Foley catheter-assisted cervical ripening, but carriers have higher rates of maternal bacteremia.

Summary: The study found that in patients on home parenteral nutrition (HPN), the addition of an antimicrobial lock solution was more beneficial for successful catheter salvage compared to systemic antibiotics alone. Recurrence rates were lower in studies using antimicrobial lock therapy (ALP) compared to those using systemic antibiotics alone.

Summary: This study compared the combined use of intracervical Foley catheter and intravaginal misoprostol with the use of intravaginal misoprostol alone for cervical ripening. Thirteen randomized controlled trials involving 2978 participants met the inclusion criteria. The combination group showed no difference in the incidence of cesarean delivery, but had comparable time to delivery, shorter time to vaginal delivery, lower risk of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission, lower risk of meconium-stained fluid, and lower risk of tachysystole with fetal heart trace changes compared to the intravaginal misoprostol-only group.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a noble metal alloy (NMA) coated BIP Foley Catheter in preventing symptomatic CAUTI in a large cohort of patients in India. The results showed a 69% reduction in CAUTI with the NMA-coated BIP Foley Catheter group compared to the control group, with fewer adverse events in the NMA-coated group.
