Summary: The study aims to identify risk factors for vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis after radical prostatectomy and further characterize its natural progression and treatment patterns. It was found that surgical technique, perioperative morbidity, and patient-related factors influence the risk of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis, which is independently associated with increased risk of urinary incontinence.

Summary: This study compared the use of different types of sutures for vesicourethral anastomosis in laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. The results showed no significant differences in complications and urinary continence recovery among the groups. However, the V-Loc group had faster urinary continence recovery compared to the other two groups.

Summary: This study compared the leakage pressures of vesicourethral anastomosis using conventional sutures and unidirectional barbed sutures in canine cadaveric tissue. The results showed that the use of unidirectional barbed sutures resulted in shorter surgical time and fewer suture bite placements, but did not significantly affect leakage pressure. Therefore, a urinary catheter is still necessary when performing a vesicourethral anastomosis with unidirectional barbed sutures in dogs to prevent urine extravasation in the postoperative period.

Summary: This large prospective study found an overall low rate of vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis after radical prostatectomy, but the rate was significantly lower after robot-assisted prostatectomy. The risk of stenosis seems to be associated with the number of sutures/takes in the anastomosis. Urinary incontinence was twice as common in patients with stenosis.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the postoperative outcomes, complications, and functional assessment of patients who received conservative therapy for EVAL. The study found that 81.5% of the patients achieved urinary continence at 1-year follow-up, 5.7% of the patients required surgical reintervention, 11.5% of the patients presented with symphysitis, and 77.1% of the patients presented with urinary tract infection.

Summary: This study aims to demonstrate a total transabdominal robotic approach for treating recalcitrant vesicourethral anastomotic stenosis. The results showed that robot-assisted surgery successfully removed residual prostate and bladder neck, and reconstructed the vesicourethral anastomosis, potentially improving continence function. This method has significant clinical implications.

Summary: This study introduces a simple and effective suture technique that can efficiently relieve tension and restore normal tensile strength for more than 3 months. The technique involves the use of a slowly absorbable 2-0 barbed suture for subcutaneous tension relieving. The results show that this suture technique provides a rapid and long-lasting tension-relieving effect with ideal scar appearances and lower relapse rates.

Summary: This study describes the technical evolution and perioperative outcomes of vesicourethral anastomosis (VUA) in transvesical (TV) single-port robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (SP-RARP). The improved maneuverability of the robotic platform allowed for easier suturing within the bladder. With increasing surgical experience, there was a reduction in the number of sutures, shorter anastomosis time, and improved perioperative outcomes.

Summary: This study investigates the safety profile of barbed sutures compared to conventional laparoscopic sutures in gastrointestinal surgeries through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results show that the use of barbed sutures does not significantly increase the risk of leaks, bleedings, or stenosis compared to conventional sutures. However, it significantly reduces operative time.

Summary: The study aimed to describe Gallucci's technique for vesicourethral anastomosis and posterior musculofascial reconstruction (PMFR) during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and evaluate early urinary continence recovery and perioperative outcomes. The results showed that VV-G significantly improved early urinary continence recovery without increasing perioperative morbidity. Therefore, VV-G represents an easy-to-learn and easy-to-teach technique.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the experience and outcomes of four patients who underwent robotic-assisted simultaneous repair of rectovesical fistula (RVF) with concomitant vesicourethral anastomotic stricture (VUAS) after radical prostatectomy. The surgeries were uneventful and no intraoperative complications were reported. The median follow-up time was 16.25 months and no fistula recurrence was observed.

Summary: Robotic radical nephroureterectomy (RRNU) and laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (LRNU) offer comparable outcomes. RRNU is associated with a higher rate of bladder cuff excision, lower overall complications, and shorter length of stay compared to LRNU. LRNU is a negative predictor for achieving tetrafecta outcome.
