Summary: This review compared the oncological outcomes of ablative therapies (AT) and partial nephrectomy (PN) in patients with small renal masses (SRM). It found that while AT patients in the T1a group had worse overall survival, they experienced fewer post-operative complications, better kidney function preservation, and similar cancer-specific survival compared to PN patients. Further long-term high-quality studies are needed to confirm the potential benefits of AT, especially in T1b patients.

Summary: This study compared the perioperative, renal functional, and oncologic outcomes of minimally invasive partial nephrectomy (MIPN) and focal therapy (FT) in small renal masses (SRMs). The study found that FT has advantages in protecting kidney function, reducing bleeding, shortening operating time, and shortening the length of stay. However, FT has a lower risk of minor complications. There was no difference between FT and MIPN in local recurrence, distant metastasis, and major complications.

Summary: Partial nephrectomy appears to be a relatively safe and potentially effective treatment option for cT2 renal masses, offering better preservation of renal function compared to radical nephrectomy. These findings support the ongoing use of partial nephrectomy for renal masses larger than 7 cm in properly selected patients.

Summary: This study compares the oncological and renal function outcomes of microwave ablation and partial nephrectomy for small renal tumors. The study found that both methods have comparable oncological outcomes and renal preservation, regardless of tumor size.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of patients with cT1b renal tumors treated with partial nephrectomy (PN) versus percutaneous cryoablation (PCA). A retrospective analysis of 119 patients was conducted, and it was found that PCA was more likely to be chosen for octogenarians. The IPW-adjusted analysis showed that PCA had a significantly worse local recurrence-free survival compared to PN, but provided comparable distant oncologic outcomes.

Summary: While active surveillance for small renal tumors has been shown to be safe in older and more frail patients, its safety in younger and healthier patients had not been confirmed. We compared outcomes for patients aged 55-75 years who were managed with surgery or active surveillance and were similar in age and overall health. The probability of death after 5 years was low overall and not significantly different between the groups, suggesting that active surveillance is safe in routine clinical practice.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes and safety of laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) and open partial nephrectomy (OPN) in patients with highly anatomical complexity of localized renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The results showed that OPN resulted in better renal function preservation than LPN, and the oncological and safety outcomes were comparable between the two procedures.

Summary: In this study, a cost-effectiveness analysis was performed to assess the benefits of partial nephrectomy (PN) and percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) for patients with cT1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The results suggest that PCA is more cost-effective than PN in the majority of scenarios, although the currently available evidence is of limited quality.

Summary: This study compared renal function after RFA and LPN treatment of small renal masses, finding that LPN resulted in greater reduction of split renal function in the affected kidney compared to RFA. However, there was no difference between the two groups in terms of changes in creatinine and eGFR levels.

Summary: The study found that robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy and laparoscopic cryoablation had similar outcomes in treating localized T1-T2 renal tumors, with cryoablation having shorter operative time and less blood loss, and without compromising oncological outcomes.

Summary: The outcomes of retroperitoneal robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (r-RAPN) and transperitoneal RAPN (t-RAPN) were compared in a large cohort of patients with postero-lateral renal masses, demonstrating similar postoperative, functional, and oncological results. r-RAPN showed advantage in shorter operative time, but no significant difference in length of stay as suggested by previous reports.

Summary: Intraoperative cyst rupture is relatively common during partial nephrectomy for cystic renal masses, and it is associated with R.E.N.A.L. nephrometry score, Bosniak category, and surgeon's experience. Cyst rupture affects the recurrence-free survival and cancer-free survival of patients, but does not significantly impact overall survival.

Summary: This retrospective descriptive study evaluated the efficacy and safety of cryoablation for T1b renal tumors. The results showed good oncologic outcomes and low rates of complications, supporting cryoablation as a potential alternative to surgery for tumors up to 7 cm in diameter.

Summary: Active surveillance is a safe and cost-effective approach for managing small renal masses, and may lead to better outcomes than immediate intervention for patients with tumors of very low metastatic potential.

Summary: NADT prior to RALP does not significantly affect urinary or bowel function outcomes for up to 24 months postoperatively, but results in worse hormonal scores. The NADT group shows worse sexual function outcomes within 2 years after surgery, although there is no significant difference when nerve sparing is taken into account.

Summary: This study identified methylation markers associated with metastasis in localized prostate cancer, but adding the methylation score to clinical risk prediction did not significantly improve the predictive accuracy. The identified methylation markers may provide insight into the role of these genetic regions in metastasis development.
