Summary: This study evaluated microbial communities in root canals using Nanopore sequencing and analyzed their relationship with peri-radicular inflammatory diseases. The results showed the presence of various microorganisms in root canals, which were closely related to clinical and endodontic conditions. Future studies should further evaluate these conditions and identify their role in inducing bone damage and local systemic diseases to better understand the relationship between microbes and endodontic pathologies.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to investigate the impact of different obturation techniques and materials on the management of apical periodontitis (AP). The results showed that the obturation techniques and materials used did not affect the outcome of AP. Vertical compaction resulted in faster resolution of periapical lesions, while patients treated with lateral condensation had poorer oral health-related quality of life.

Summary: The aim of the study was to identify factors associated with extractions within 5 years after root fillings in the adult Swedish population. Various individual- and tooth-specific variables were found to be associated with extractions, with restoration type and composite restorations showing high odds ratios for extractions. Further research is needed to understand the reasons for extractions.

Summary: This study investigated the antibacterial effect of root canal sealer containing DMADDM on persistent apical periodontitis in beagle dogs. The results showed that DMADDM-modified sealer significantly reduced the volume of periapical lesion and inflammatory grade, especially in cases of E. faecalis-induced reinfection.

Summary: Persistent apical periodontitis is a critical challenge in root canal therapy. Developing root canal filling materials with continuous antibacterial effects and tight seal is important to prevent treatment failure and persistent apical periodontitis. In this study, we modified the EndoREZ root canal sealer by adding the antibacterial material DMADDM and magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). The modified sealer showed good mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and enhanced antibacterial effects on multispecies biofilms under a magnetic field. In vivo study demonstrated its inhibitory effect on persistent apical periodontitis with minimal resorption and slight increase in periodontal ligament space.

Summary: This study evaluated the quality of root canal obturation in curved root canals filled with different techniques. The results showed variations in the performance of different filling materials at different levels in the canal, and the use of sonic activation of sealers did not reduce the presence of voids within obturation.

Summary: This study systematically analyzed the effectiveness of root resection techniques in managing apical periodontitis. The results showed limited data and high heterogeneity and bias among the included studies. Therefore, it is currently not possible to recommend or dismiss the use of root resection techniques for treating apical periodontitis.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of two common antimicrobial filling pastes on susceptible or resistant bacteria, finding that antibiotic resistance can impact the effectiveness of these pastes. The antimicrobial activity of the pastes depends on the antibiotic resistance profile of the strain.

Summary: Factors such as age, tooth condition, doctor classification, and treatment quality have a significant impact on the outcome of root canal treatment for apical periodontitis. A larger crown root ratio is a significant risk factor for treatment failure in initial RCT, while unqualified treatment plays a crucial role in the success of re-RCT. No significant difference in success rates was found between initial RCT and re-RCT for AP.

Summary: Dens invaginatus is a dental anomaly resulting from the invagination of the enamel organ into the dental papilla. It can cause a radiolucent invagination in the crown or root of a tooth, which is connected to the oral cavity and can retain saliva, food remnants, and bacteria. The management of dens invaginatus includes preventive sealing or filling, and various root canal treatment options.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence, severity, and risk factors of gingivitis among pregnant women. A total of 220 nulliparous women at 3 months of pregnancy were recruited in Dakar, Senegal in 2022. Logistic regression analysis revealed that consuming more than five portions of fruits and vegetables per day significantly decreased the odds of gingivitis, while having a professional activity and high education increased the odds. Other important risk factors included dental plaque percentage and severity of clinical attachment loss. Increasing body mass index was inversely associated with gingivitis. The results emphasize the high prevalence of gingivitis and bleeding among 3-month pregnant women and highlight the importance of literacy and proper oral hygiene actions in improving gingival health.
