Summary: The meta-analysis results showed no significant difference in the incidence or intensity of postendodontic flareup between single and multiple visit root canal treatment groups. This suggests that whether the root canal treatment is done in one visit or multiple visits does not independently determine the risk of postendodontic pain or flareup.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the prevalence of root-filled teeth (RFT) among diabetic patients. The results showed that the prevalence of RFT among diabetic patients is 5.5%, and more than 40% of diabetics have at least one RFT. In clinical practice, dentists should consider the possibility of undiagnosed diabetes when observing multiple RCT failures in the same patient.

Summary: The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine whether ultrasonic irrigation (UI) is more effective in root canal disinfection than conventional irrigation (CI). The results showed that UI had a better antimicrobial effect in both meta-analyses. The quality of evidence was moderate. In conclusion, UI is superior to CI in terms of antimicrobial efficacy in root canal disinfection.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the literature on the root canal configuration and morphology of mandibular second premolars, finding that the majority are single-rooted with a 1-1-1/1 configuration being the most common. Male patients were significantly more likely to have a 1-2-1/1 or 2-2-2/2 configuration compared to female patients.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review to evaluate the effect of non-thermal plasma treatments on the adhesion of root canal sealers to dentin. Four studies were included in the analysis, with three using the push-out test in human extracted teeth and one using bovine dentin samples to measure the contact angle. The results suggested that non-thermal plasma might positively influence the adhesion ability of BioRoot RCS and Endosequence BC, but there was no consensus for AH Plus sealer. However, the scarcity of studies on this topic warrants caution in interpreting the findings.

Summary: This review compared the release of growth factors using different root canal irrigant solutions and found that 10% EDTA showed higher levels of TGF-1 release compared to 10% citric acid. However, the evidence certainty was identified as low to very low, demanding further studies before EDTA can be recommended as a better irrigant for regenerative endodontics.

Summary: This systematic review examined the impact of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) impairment across dental patient populations using four dimensions: Oral Function, Oro facial Pain, Oro facial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact. The review found standardized and clinically relevant information for a significant number of dental patient populations, providing a framework for interpreting OHRQoL impairment in clinical practice, public health, and research. Study quality was not associated with OHRQoL magnitude, and publication bias was found to be minimal.

Summary: Pain is a common symptom in endodontic conditions, and differential diagnostic procedures are necessary to exclude other pain origins. Dentists and endodontists should be familiar with the new International Classification of Orofacial Pain (ICOP) to accurately identify various orofacial painful conditions and provide proper treatment.

Summary: This study assessed the measurement of overall oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) construct and its four dimensions using several versions of OHIP, and provided recommendations for their use and scoring. The results showed high correlations between the summary scores of the 5, 14, 19, and 49 item versions, indicating similar measurement of OHRQoL across different versions. Based on the findings, it is recommended to use the 5-item OHIP version for psychometrically sound and practical assessment of OHRQoL.

Summary: This study compared the measurements of alveolar bone height and width between zero-echo-time MRI (ZTE-MRI) and cone beam CT (CBCT). The results showed good inter- and intra-observer reproducibility for both imaging techniques, with statistically insignificant differences in most bone measurements. The mean measurement differences were also within the range of method error. Therefore, ZTE-MRI is not significantly different from CBCT in measuring alveolar bone height and width.

Summary: This study assessed the reliability and diagnostic accuracy of high-resolution, high-contrast MRI in determining trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The results showed moderate agreement among reviewers in diagnosing TN using MRI, with an average accuracy of only 0.57. This suggests that MRI is not highly effective in distinguishing TN and its causal role in TN is unclear.

Summary: This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence of painful temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) in endodontic patients and assessed the contribution of TMD pain to the chief complaint and associated characteristics. The results showed that 54% of the patients had painful TMDs, with 26% having TMD pain unrelated to endodontic pain, 20% having TMD as the primary complaint, and 8% having TMD as the sole cause of their pain. TMD prevalence was associated with more severe symptoms and signs of tooth pain and with psychological distress. The study highlights the importance of considering TMD comorbidity in the management of endodontic patients with toothache.
