Background: The results of several papers have confirmed the existence of correlations between an unhealthy diet and the presence of metabolic syndrome. However, relationships between eating habits and metabolic obesity with normal weight have not yet been sufficiently studied. The aim of the study is to determine which dietary patterns are present in individuals with a normal BMI and to find out whether those patterns were connected with the risk of metabolic syndrome and its features. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a group of 2479 subjects with a normal weight (BMI = 18.5-24.9 kg/m(2)), aged between 37-66. The study included the evaluation of eating habits, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure tests and the analysis of the collected fasting-blood samples, on the basis of which cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose levels were determined. Dietary patterns were determined by means of factor analysis. Results: In the group of individuals with a normal BMI, four dietary patterns were distinguished: healthy, fat, meat and alcohol, prudent and coca cola, hard cheese and French fries. After controlling for potential confounders, subjects in the highest tertile of prudent dietary pattern scores had a lower odds ratio for the metabolic obesity normal weight) (odds ratio: 0.69; 95 % CI: 0.53-0.89; p < 0.01) and low HDL cholesterol (odds ratio: 0.77; 95 % CI: 0.59-0.99; p < 0.05), in comparison to those from the lowest tertile, whereas the individuals in the second tertile had a higher odds ratio for the increased blood glucose concentration than those in the lowest tertile (odds ratio: 0.74; 95 % CI: 0.57-0.96; p < 0.05). Conclusion: A dietary pattern characterized by a high consumption of fish and whole grains, and a low consumption of refined grains, sugar, sweets and cold cured meat, is connected with lower risk of metabolic obesity normal weight as well as with the lower risk of low HDL cholesterol concentration and increased glucose concentration.

A. Jaroszynski, T. T. Schlegel, T. Zaborowski, T. Zapolski, W. Zaluska, A. Janion-Sadowska, D. Koziel, S. Gluszek, W. Dabrowski

Summary: Abnormal ventricular gradient optimized for right ventricular pressure overload (VG-RVPO) is not only able to detect pulmonary hypertension (PHT) but also predict all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients.

The role of miR-370 and miR-138 in the regulation of BMP2 suppressor gene expression in colorectal cancer: preliminary studies

Summary: This study assessed the expression of the BMP2 gene in CRC tissues and validated the plasma concentration of BMP2 protein. The results showed downregulation of BMP2 expression in CRC tissue and an increase in miR-370 and miR-138 expression. Decreased BMP2 with concurrent increased miR-370 and miR-138 expression was associated with malignant clinicopathological features of CRC and poor patient prognosis.

Summary: CUZD1 may be a novel susceptibility gene for NACP, with predicted deleterious variants accumulating in European patients. No association was found in the Japanese cohort, indicating the need for further investigation on how these variants contribute to pancreatitis.

Summary: This meta-analysis confirms the clinical significance of CTRC variants in chronic pancreatitis (CP) and provides further justification for genetic screening of CP patients. Heterozygous loss-of-function CTRC variants increase the risk for CP approximately 3-7-fold.

Positive Orientation and Fatigue Experienced by Polish Nursing Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Mediatory Role of Emotional Control

Ewa Kupcewicz, Kamila Rachubinska, Aleksandra Gaworska-Krzeminska, Anna Andruszkiewicz, Ewa Kawalec-Kajstura, Dorota Koziel, Malgorzata A. Basinska, Elzbieta Grochans

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between positive orientation and fatigue in Polish nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the mediation role of emotional control. The results indicate a significant negative correlation between positive orientation and fatigue, and a significant positive correlation between emotional control and fatigue. Therefore, it is crucial to enhance positive orientation and emotional control to minimize the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing students.

Summary: Cholecystolithiasis is a common gastrointestinal disorder that often requires surgery, but it carries the risk of iatrogenic bile duct injury, which is a severe complication. In this study, we analyzed the frequency of bile duct injuries and how they were managed in our facility. We found that women were primarily affected, with acute cholecystitis being the main indication for surgery. The most common complication was injury to the common bile duct, and the most common repair procedure was Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy. Early complications were experienced by half of the patients, and the overall mortality rate was 22.7%.

Summary: This study analyzed the correlation between the third dose of COVID-19 vaccination and the dynamics of IgG anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein antibody levels in a group of healthy individuals. The results showed that IgG levels were significantly higher and less variable after the second booster vaccination compared to the first booster. The antibody levels were positively correlated with females, healthcare workers, the elderly, and participants with a negative COVID-19 history.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the persistent changes in microvascular parameters based on OCTA in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 bilateral pneumonia. We found significantly decreased vessel density (VD) in SCP in COVID-19 patients, as well as decreased VD in DCP and CC, with increased VD in FCC. Gender differences were also observed, with decreased foveal VD in SCP and DCP in women compared to men, while increased FAZ area in SCP and superior VD in SCC were found in women. In conclusion, persistent changes in OCTA ocular parameters were noticed in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: This study aimed to monitor the changes in balance expression during the therapeutic process in children aged 8-12 with postural disorders. The evaluation of spine shape and equilibrium reactions showed that children with shape-of-spine disorders had lower efficiency in equilibrium reactions compared to those without disorders. The application of neurophysiological methods in treatment improved equilibrium reactions in these patients.
