Summary: High-level ab initio calculations suggest that a 4-body interaction is crucial in describing the interaction energy of water clusters, leading to the development of a machine-learned polynomial potential energy surface (PES) for the 4-body interaction. The new PES shows improved agreement with benchmark results and faster evaluation times, demonstrating its high fidelity and efficiency in describing the interactions within water clusters.

Summary: The performance of membranes in water purification, especially in terms of fouling resistance, is influenced by the interactions between solvated species and membrane surfaces. Efforts to create fouling-resistant membranes often focus on hydrophilization of surfaces. However, molecular simulations show that solutes are attracted to both hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces, contradicting macroscopic measures which suggest solute affinity is higher on hydrophobic surfaces. This suggests that traditional macroscopic hydrophobicity metrics may not accurately predict solute-surface affinity, and that molecular-scale surface chemical patterning plays a significant role in influencing affinity.

Summary: This paper discusses the problem of accurately estimating the position and orientation of multiple dipoles using synthetic EEG signals. A proper forward model is determined, and a nonlinear constrained optimization problem with regularization is solved to compare the results with the widely used research code EEGLAB. A thorough sensitivity analysis of the estimation algorithm to the parameters in the assumed signal measurement model is conducted. The proposed source identification algorithm is tested on various types of data sets, and the numerical results show good agreement with EEGLAB, requiring minimal pre-processing of the acquired data.

Summary: Magnetic particle tracking is a new technology for measuring particle movement in opaque environments. A new semi-analytical solution for trajectory reconstruction is discussed in this paper, along with the development of deep neural network models for denoising of reconstructed trajectories. The combination of wavelet-based filtering and DNN models provides more accurate velocity reconstruction. All DNN-based and wavelet methods perform well in orientation reconstruction.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the reconstruction of a background potential from the dynamical behavior of a vortex dipole. We prove that, under suitable conditions, a real-analytic potential can be uniquely reconstructed by measuring entrance and exit positions, as well as travel times between boundary points. Importantly, this work eliminates the flatness assumption on the potential from previous results, with a key step involving a constructional procedure for recovering the boundary jet of the potential.
